Her POV

I always have loved the autumn months, everything about them has warmed me. The colours are beautiful and they are welcoming and cosy, I got back to my flat at dusk, it gave me just enough time to get out on my little balcony and watch the sunset. LA can be beautiful.

I made myself a pumpkin pie coffee, I'm a sucker for flavoured coffees, especially at this time of year, and people watched, as I often do. I find myself creating little lives for them in my head about how I feel they are and what they do. I could do it for hours.

My phone buzzed in my pocket and it was my best friend, Parker.

'Hey! Where have you been? - P'

'Busy as ever Parker!'

'Bullshit! I bet u 10 bucks you're sat on your balcony rn!'

He knows me too well. Instead of continuing the messages I phoned him.

"Hey Parker." I said when he answered.

"Scout... please tell me you're coming tonight." He said, with a hint of eagerness.

"I don't know P, probably not. The office was manic today." I admitted, it was the truth! I work for a magazine. It's not what I want to do with my life, I want to write stories. I want to be able to create an entire world of my own, some where I can be in charge. As I've never been in control or in charge of my own life. Writing stories bring me peace.

For now, the magazine is the best I've got. It pays my rent and keeps my boyfriend happy. I'm just an assistant, I do the boring admin jobs that no one else wants to do, but I get pretty much left to my own devices with it.

"Scout... you can't bail on me again!" Parker whined. "Is it him again? Is he why you won't come out with me?" Parker asked, his voice going quiet in case he was here. Which he wasn't.

"No he's not here, he's at work. But seriously P, it was busy today. Fridays are always busy and you know that. It was either bust my ass today or suffer and have to go in tomorrow. I don't know about you but I don't fancy working through my weekend." I admitted to Parker. Not that he would know.

Parker lives a life of luxury, his parents are absolutely loaded and when he turned 21 he got a massive settlement they had put money into since he was born. This meant that Parker never had to work, or worry about rent, but he wasn't snobby. I mean sure he enjoys the finer things in life and is more likely to go to posher restaurants than your typical fast food, but he doesn't ever think those who have less than him are worth less than he is.

He's a man of the soul. He loves people who love what he does. If they have the same vibes then you're automatically friends with him. He would do absolutely anything for anyone. That's what I love about him. He's the best friend a girl could ask for.

"You break my heart, every single Friday Scout. I'll let you off tonight but tomorrow you're mine. Even if I have to physically kidnap you." Parker threatened.

"Okay, okay. Tomorrow is fine!" I admit defeat, knowing Parker, he probably actually would arrange for me to be kidnapped.

"That's why I love you Scout! Right I've got to go. I'll text you later!"

"See you soon P."

With that I put the phone down and took another sip of my coffee. The wind picked up, encouraging me to go indoors so I wouldn't catch a cold. But I resisted. I loved the peace. I was just high up enough that I could hear the hum of the traffic but then it was just wind and birds. It was a little oasis in the middle of a hurricane. And it was all mine.
