"Where were you?" Kunikida closed his notebook with a thud and a grim shadow covered his forehead once he noticed a red mark on her neck. His eyes narrowed at her having her hand tightly intertwined with Ranpo's. Jane only flashed him a bright smile, acting as if nothing happened between those two while Ranpo smirked smugly, purposely trying to provoke the bespectacled guy by kissing her knuckles, saying they were quite occupied earlier–had to do something with his problem and Jane had done a great job to solve it.
Kunikida shook his head and arranged some books on the shelf. Ranpo headed to his desk and took a bright blur marble. "Kunikida-kun, I have to head off to a job now. Looks like the police in this city can't capture even a single criminal without my help. Still, my Ultra-Deduction is the best ability in this agency or even the entire nation. I guess it's no small wonder that everyone depends on it." He tipped his hat, looking like the Sherlock Holmes in action. He continued to brag about his ability and Jane rolled her eyes.
"Alright, Ranpo-kun, we fucking get it–you are awesome." Jane waved her hand and later her eyes found Atsushi who was hiding behind books–guessed he was still traumatized by her bold behavior earlier. "Atsushi-kun, never mind the clean-up here. Come with us, to assist a murder case. It's good for your first job. You might learn something there." The new rookie shrieked, assuming the job was too much for him on the first day and he probably couldn't do anything to help them. Jane made a face at him. They weren't going there to help Ranpo assist the case. After all, he didn't even need their help.
Ranpo turned around swiftly, his cape flowed dramatically as if they were in a mystery thriller tv series. "I'm not some two-bit detective. I don't need an assistant. Well, see, I don't know how to take the train. And Jane-chan will be there to protect us! Right, Jane-chan?" The girl only hummed and looked at Atsushi for his final words and soon, those three found themselves sitting in a train headed to the location. She knew he was surprised to discover Ranpo wasn't able to do anything, in fact, he didn't know a thing.
"Ano, Jane-san, do you have an ability?"
The girl snapped her head to the weretiger and her hand was tapping her lap, moving as if she was playing a piano. Atsushi was really curious about her since the girl was an assassin and she even managed to overwhelm Akutagawa, the supposed danger of the Port Mafia, without using any ability. He wondered what was her ability. She shared a look with Ranpo and the closed eyes guy gave him a snicker then proceeded playing with his marble. "I do have an ability, Atsushi-kun."
Atsushi moved forward to ask her more in anticipation. "Really? What is it?"
Ranpo tossed the marble in the air and caught it with a hand. "No one knows it and she won't tell you. Her ability is one of the agency's top secrets." Atsushi's back hunched and he leaned back in disappointment. Jane only gave him a small smile, saying she did use her ability in fight and there's a personal reason why she didn't tell anyone about it. Jane even said sorry to the boy since he looked so dejected and Atsushi stared at his palms on his lap, still couldn't get over the facts that he was the weretiger all along.
