♦️Chapter Seventeen: Cheater

Midari POV:

Mary is a psycho. For real. Who in their right mind ties up somebody in front of a crowd? And uses them as a prize? Insane. All I could do is watch this all unfold. I mean, obviously I'm rooting for Y/N, I don't really want to spend the rest of my life with Mary, but I know this is putting a whole lot of pressure on Y/N. They just put out the last card for sudden death, but it's too low down for me to see. If Mary wins, I honestly don't know what I'll do. All I can do right now is believe in Y/N.

Y/N POV

A tie. We threw out the same cards. The 3 of clubs, leaving us both at 150, still. We didn't establish what to do if we get a tie, so Mary and I just sit there in silence, waiting for Runa to call the shots.

"Looks like we have a tie! To settle this, since it wasn't already distinguished, we flip a coin!"

The whole crowd gasps and Mary's eyes widen. All that for this to be settled with a coin flip? 50% chance I get Midari back... I don't know if I could go through with this. My heart is pounding in my chest, and it feels like the whole crowd hears it. All I could do now is hope.

"Alrighty! To make sure this stays neutral, I will be assigning heads and tails to you both, as opposed to you guys choosing. Mary, you're tails, and Y/N, you're heads. Are we ready?"

Both me and Midari nod in compliance. She flips the coin high into the air, and catches it in her hands. The final moment. This decides everything. Runa looks at the coin and begins to state the answer.

"The winner is... Mary Saotome!"

With that, my body almost stops working. My mind goes black and my limbs fall limp. Midari-

"She's out! Can we get medics, please?"

I was mostly out cold, but I could hear everything going on around me. The crowd was roaring, Midari was screaming, Mary was... silent? As I was being carried into a room, most likely the nurses office, I heard Mary and Runa standing beside me, talking about the gamble.

"Runa, thank you so much. Without you, I wouldn't have won. Here's the money I promised you."

"It's no problem, but nobody can know about this. It will completely diminish my rep as the president of the election committee. If this gets out, like we already addressed, your life plan, is mine. Got it?"

"Yeah. Got it."

So she cheated... I need to get some proof of this, or I'll loose Midari, forever. I open my eyes and jolt up, then look Mary in the eye.

"You cheated. And I have it all on recording. So, let me have Midari, or else I'll tell Runa I know, and she'll take your life plan."

Obviously I didn't, but if I made her think I did, it would be fine, right?

"C-cheated? Um... fine. You got me, I guess. But I still have no proof you got on it recording, so you really can't do much!"

Crap. What the fuck am I supposed to do now? I need to think of something quick... I can't loose Midari like this.

"Well I don't need a recording to tell Runa, do I? Nobody ever suspects her of cheating and if someone did out of the blue, she'll know I wasn't lying. I don't think you want a life plan, do you... Mittens?"

She walks up to me and pulls my collar almost ripping it off.

"Don't call me that ever again. And fine, whatever. You win this time, that is, for now. I'll be back. I always get what I want."

She lets go of my collar making my head fly back.

"Bye, Mittens!"

She saunters out of the room and unlocks the door that leads to where Midari was sitting on the stage. I run to untie her and look her in the eyes.

"Y/N- I thought you lost- how are you here- Mary-"

Before she could finish talking I join my lips with hers and chain my arms around her neck. Our lips dance perfectly together and I feel tears streaming down Midari's face. I take my right hand a caress the side of her face, wiping her tears with my other hand.

"I'll fill you in on everything once we get home, okay? I love you, so so much. I'm so sorry I put you in this situation. Lets go."

She nodded whilst her head was buried in my neck. Our arms link and we walk out of the school, gaining a very malicious smirk from Mary. Whatever she has for us, we can handle it.
