♧ Chapter 23: What Happens Next?

Midari POV:________

I wake up like normal, my hands draped around Y/N's waist, her long, tantalizing hair tangling in my fingers and sticking to my neck and chest. This is usual for us ever since we moved in together. Thinking about it, I think it's been about 4 months since then, and things have been eerily peaceful. I started thinking about it almost 2 weeks ago. Everything that happened before got buried deep inside me, so I didn't think about it much, but lately, it's surfaced. I can't help but think about the last time Mary came. "I'll be back," she said. Obviously, at the time, it seemed like an empty threat, but the more I think about it, the more I worry. Not for me, per se, more so Y/N. It's obvious that Mary has no remorse and is willing to do a LOT to get to her... it makes me wonder what she has up her sleeve. As I'm starting to drift back to sleep, my thoughts aiding me, I feel Y/N's dainty hands entangle within mine. 

"What's on your mind, babe?"

"Hmmm?"

"I know you heard me~ What's the matter?"

"And how did you come to the conclusion that I had something on my mind~?"

"You're tensing up; it's a lot easier to tell when I'm all pressed up against you, y'know."

"Well, you got me, I guess. It's... Mary, I just- I don't know what she's going to do or even if she's going to do anything... she's one to make empty threats- but I just don't know, and it's been driving me crazy for the last two weeks..."

She turned around and laid her soft hands on the sharp outline of my jaw. Her soft but piercing eyes made contact with mine, and her figure shifted below me, pulling her closer to my frame.

"I've been thinking about her too, trust me. But I think we've proved enough that whatever she does, we'll be able to handle it, right? We've been through two of her schemes and look at us. We love each other, and that's all we need, right? Let's try not to go anywhere alone this month... I've had a strange feeling about it, and just in case, I don't wanna be caught alone. But I know we'll be fine... how about we sleep in today? I'll set some candles and pull in the blinds so we can sleep better?"

"That sounds wonderful, babe; thanks."

I submerge myself under the covers waiting for Y/N to finish lighting candles in our bedroom. After about 2 minutes, she climbs into bed beside me and lays her head on my stomach. I drape my hand over her waist and pull her close. I begin to get lost in my thoughts, and eventually, I'm drifting to sleep.
