Chapter thirteen

~2 days later~ ~wow I actually know the time wth~

I trudged along the hallways of the school, exhaustion still passing over me. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. I stopped and leaned against the wall. I recalled the entire morning to make sure I didn't forget anything.

I caught my breathe realizing I didn't see Percy at the front doors waiting for me. He must be late.
I walked around to pass the time, occasionally checking the front doors for him. By the time the bell rang he hadn't shown up yet. I started to get uneasy. I took a deep breathe.
He was probably just taking the day off. His moms birthday was yesterday. I thought. I took another deep breathe. He can't be missing. He can't be the next target. He's not going to end up dead, Annabeth.
I rubbed my eyes before heading to class. He was going to be ok.

Halfway through the day I had learned that a guy named Nico Di Angelo had gone missing 2 days ago. His boyfriend, Will, was quiet the whole day.
At lunch he sat alone and he hadn't touched his lunch. He stared blankly at the table. He didn't deserve this. No one did.
Finally I gained the courage and walked towards his table. I gently set down my tray and sat in front of him. He glanced up and I noticed a rim of red around his eyes.

"Hey Will."
"Hey Annabeth."
"I'm sorry about your boyfriend." I gave him a gentle smile.
"Thanks." He traced invisible drawings onto the table with his finger. We stayed silent for a few seconds.
"What did you guys like to do?"
He looked up and gave me a confused look. "What?"
"What did you guys do together? I'm sure you both enjoyed each others company."

He half smiled. "We always used to go to his house and watch old horror movies. He would get really scared of them for some reason. It was almost like he had the heart of someone from the time of the movie." His smile grew a little. "Sometimes if he got too scared we would get McDonalds and just drive around town. He really liked their chicken nuggets." He went on to talk about how they met and other things they liked to do. His smile was wide and the pain in his eyes was gone. I couldn't help but smile. They sounded like the perfect couple. I listened to him and let him just talk. He obviously really loved him.

Suddenly the bell rang and he stopped mid sentence. He looked at me and gave me a grateful smile. "Thank you Annabeth."
I smiled and put my things together. "Anytime." He nodded and headed to class. I stopped for a second and remembered Percy not being at school today. I decided I'd visit and check up on him after school.

As I stood in front of the door to his apartment stared blankly in front of me.

I hesitated before lightly knocking on the door. I heard shuffling on the other side before a man came to the door. He looked a lot like Percy.
"Hey Annabeth." His eyes looked droopy and he looked at me blankly.
"Hi Poseidon. Is Percy there?" He sighed and rubbed his eyes. When he removed his hand I noticed tears at the rim of his eyes. He took a shaky breathe before giving me a worried look.

"Percy was here yesterday after having memorial cake." He looked away before blinking back tears.
"I hate to tell you this, but I found his bed empty this morning. He's missing."
