Amelia -
My story was written for me; planned before I was born; my book sold before I could walk, by the people I was suppose to love.
September 1st, 1991, the day I had been waiting for. I didn't know what my letter meant at first, does anyone? Witchcraft? Sounds ridiculous if you ask me.
I stood in front of the wall that was meant to lead me to the platform neatly printed on my ticket. I still thought this was a joke; perhaps one made by a school friend. It wasn't until I walked through the wall – bracing for impact, that I realized it wasn't in fact a hoax.
There were families everywhere; younger children excited to start their journey, and older children – not so much. My parents would have been here today, but they had to rush off to work shortly after dropping me off; both of them work in real estate.
To say I was terrified was an understatement. I didn't know anyone here or even where I am going for that matter really. The same ball of nerves from this morning was still in my belly, as I tried to make myself look less lost.
A large red steam train was waiting for its passengers. As I walked towards one of its doors, a blonde-haired boy pushed past me to get in front.
"Watch it!" I exclaimed, but he was already inside. He was kind of cute up until the moment he pushed me.
Considering I did not know anyone, I decided to make some friends. As I walked down the narrow aisle of the train, I noticed most compartments were full. I made it halfway when I noticed one with two boys my age talking. They seemed to have enough energy for me, so I decided to give it a shot.
Just as I was about to make my entrance, the train started to depart, leaving my life behind. I thought sadly for a second before brushing the thought away, opening the sliding doors and peering in. Both the boys looked at each other in confusion before turning to me. "sorry, most of the compartments are full, do you mind?" I gestured towards the empty space next to the red-haired boy. "no, not at all" said the other boy who sat opposite him.
"I'm Amelia, Amelia Corbyn" "Ron Weasley, and this is Harry Potter, but you already know that" The red – haired boy introduced the both of them while pointing to the boy across from him. I looked at him with a confused expression "I should? Right, yes of course. Harry Potter, the boy I've never met!" I sarcastically remarked as I gestured both of my hands towards the boy named Harry.
"Are you a muggle born then?" Questioned Ron. "A... what?" I asked, bringing back the confused expression, sitting down next to Ron in the compartment.
"A muggle born, a witch – or wizard, with muggle parents" Ron proceeded to make an attempt of explaining this new vocab. "Ron with all due respect, I still don't know what you're talking about, what's a muggle?" It was as if he was trying to get me to solve a riddle.
"A muggle is a person that isn't a witch or a wizard, would you like me to break it down even more?" I ignored his remark and turned to Harry. "So, you're the big deal in these parts?"
"I guess so" Harry shrugged, seeming like he did not know what else to say. "Tell me, how did you do it?" I propped both of my elbows onto my knees leaning forward; I was very intrigued now.
"I- I didn't even know I was a wizard" Replied Harry.
Right when Harry replied, a lovely looking elderly lady stopped at our carriage with a trolley. "Anything from the trolley, dears?", the three of us looked at each other, not knowing what to say, until Harry jumped on his feet and spoke up. "We'll take the lot thanks"; I looked at him like he was crazy. Ron looked uneasy as his ears turned pink, looking down at his homemade sandwich.
