third person POV
Elaine gasps, "How is he even that big? That cannot be possible!" Silence ensues, the people present at the table not knowing exactly how to respond until Giovanna giggles, "That's what she said." A smirk plastered on her face as she turns to face Ethan and Bridget, both of them slightly laughing as well.
"What? Did I say something wrong? I didn't mean to call him fat or anything!" Elaine exclaims, hoping everyone's laughter wasn't directed to her lack of consideration in her word choice. Bridget leans back in her chair, a soft smile adorning her features, amused by her small friend's innocence.
Ethan sighs. "Elaine, you didn't do anything wrong. Fucking Giovanna needs to consider the fact you don't know shit about sex." Elaine's mouth falls open at his vulgar language, but he takes no mind, too focused on scolding Giovanna.
"It's not my fault! It was too good of an opportunity to pass up!" Giovanna defends herself.
Ethan shakes his head. "She's only 16, for God's sake, she doesn't need your comments, and neither do I." Elaine looks back and forth between the two, before turning towards Bridget, her eyes pleading for help.
Bridget rolls her eyes and sits back up, pointing a finger in each of her friends directions; she says, "Ethan please shut the fuck up, it's a bloody joke, it's not that special, everyone makes them. Giovanna, you know this kind of shit bothers Ethan when you say it around Elaine, you shut the fuck up too. Capisce?"
A slight murmur of capisces comes from the two, and Bridget leans back again, satisfied, her work was done here.
Elaine sends her a silent thank you, grateful for her help. Giovanna pushes her wavy ginger hair over her shoulder, and huffs as her shoulders slump forward, as she leans her head on her arms resting on the table.
Just then, Giovanna realizes how much she really doesn't wanna go home. Being here, with her friends, is so much better than what will welcome her there.
Her father and mother are in constant arguments with the family business falling apart and she could always hear their shouts late into the night, haunting her. The only thing getting her through this was her friends. Bridget and Ethan she met this year, but her and Elaine have been friends since the beginning of Elaine's time at the school. The bubbly girl sat next to her during a school assembly, and they've been friends ever since.
Giovanna's family business isn't the only one falling apart- Elaine's parents are struggling with their own, coincidentally. Elaine has always been a fairly naive, trusting person, but even she's having trouble keeping it up with all of the tension at her house. Nobody seemed to tell her the truth anymore about what was going on- but of course, she's always been smart enough to figure it out.
Ethan had noticed the same traits in his family. People were more stressed, their shoulders tense, and his father was always shouting on the phone. He turned to his computer, three best friends, and his brother for comfort. Sometimes he thinks he gets on better with machines than people. Although this is mainly true, it hasn't always applied with his older brother, Daniel. Even though Ethan wouldn't ever admit it, his brother has always been his best friend. They did everything together at one point- Daniel taught Ethan everything he knew about computers...and right now, it seemed that Daniel was the only one in his family he could rely on.
Bridget doesn't have a strong connection to her family, she just knows she loves them, and would do anything to protect them. Her girlfriend, Rosa, always advocated strong connections with family, but Bridget couldn't bring herself to try. Bridget got more comfort from her training room, alone, than spending time with family and friends. It's probably why she's the best assassin there is; Bridget works best alone.
Oh yeah- did they forget to mention that their "family businesses" were actually being part of the mafia?
Bridget's most loyal customers are Mr. and Mrs. Gagnon. They also happen to be Elaine's parents- the second most powerful Mafia family in Montreal. The first being the Carlino Family, Giovanna as the heir.
The lunch bell rings bringing each kid out of their thoughts. Bridget pushes herself off the bench, sighing "Alright fuckers, I'm off to math, unfortunately. I might see you later, depends on whether I can be arsed to deal with you fucking idiots." She then gives the group a sickly smile. "Just kidding, I'll see you later."
"Yes ma'am; and I have to head to english...so I have to go for now. See you guys later!" Elaine exclaims running off to who knows where. The other three turn to each other and shrug, used to her excitement.
Ethan groans, "Fuck, I guess I have to go too. Last hour gym is shit just so you know-" He says as he walks off, leaving Giovanna and Bridget alone.
"I have to go to fucking french- literally any other class and I'd be fine. I'll be off then, I guess." Giovanna sighs, reluctant to actually go to class.
Bridget walks out of the cafeteria as well, leaving the room empty.
They were always the last to leave.
