Elaine's POV
Times like this, I really wish I paid more attention in the coding classes Ethan gave me.
I can tell you all types of weird facts, like how grasshoppers have ears in their bellies, but I can't tell if I did this code correctly...If I didn't, then Ethan might not ever come back...I'll never see him again...
"Elaine? We gotta get going, like...now." Giovanna says, tearing me out of my thoughts.
"You want me to go?" I ask, shocked. They always say I'm too young.
She sighs. "I don't think B's gonna be happy about it, but we need you to make sure we're at the right place. Now come on, before I change my mind El."
I nod my head, eager to finally be a part of the big stuff. I grab my first aid backpack, because I have a hunch Ethan won't be in the best shape, and then we go.
I scramble into the passenger seat of her car, quickly inputting the address.
Giovanna starts driving, not bothering to put her seatbelt on. I wonder if she knows that over a million people die every year from car crashes..
I anxiously flick my finger against my leg, creating a consistent sound throughout the car. Stop, Elaine, you'll hurt yourself.
Instead, I grab the roof handle, holding on for dear life as Gio speeds through the streets of Montreal.
We arrive at a rundown warehouse, seeing Bridget who is already standing in the parking lot.
It's a large stone building, just like the ones you always see in the movies. Cracks in the walls, and a big door on the left most side. There's small, tinted windows going all the way down it.
Bridget sees us, making her way over. "So I go in there, kill the fuckers, grab Ethan and go?" She says impatiently, and I roll my eyes.
"I don't think that's very nice, killing them I mean. Maybe a whooping, my dad always did that to me when I was in trouble." I suggested sarcastically, trying to forget about the worry I was feeling.
Giovanna tugs on her hair, scanning the area. "Neither of those will work, and you know it. We just need to get Ethan out, then you can beat the fuck out of them, I don't care. We're just here for Ethan," She dictates, turning to me. "Do you have the floorplan?"
I snorted. "Who do you think I am? Of course I do." I reply, showing her my phone with it pulled up.
I quickly explain to them the floorplan, and the best way to get into each room, making sure they understand. I don't want two of my friends getting kidnapped.
Bridget exhales, tapping her foot again. "El, I really don't want to send you in there...but I think that'd be our best shot. Me and Gio take the front entrance, distract...and you take the back, find Ethan, and fucking run. Got it?" She instructs, and I get nervous.
Am I put up for this? I mean...the most I ever do is research floor plans, facts about people...I've never actually been in the game, just behind the scenes. What happens when I'm no longer just a pawn?
I shake the feeling away. I was trained to do this since I was a kid. It's not like I have no experience.
We say our farewells, setting in place a meeting spot and a time, and I head to the back of the building.
Immediately, I spot the door, seeing no one coming in or out.
I rush over, trying to conceal the sound of my footsteps. My dad has always gotten onto me about that...
