farah miller and derek shepherd's date had not gone to plan. they currently stood over someone's brain, in the o.r. farah glanced over at derek, a smile filling her lips when derek's eyes captured her own before they both looked back down at the patient. "this is not an ideal date, i am sorry." derek apologised. farah shrugged, "i like it," she replied, giving a smile. "here, clamp this.." derek said softly, handing her the clamp. farah was a little worried she would mess up and kill the patient, but her steady hands didn't let her down. she carefully placed the clamp.

derek smiled, "you really do have the miller talent." he complimented. farah shrugged, "it's only a clamp." farah replied. "and i'm only the best plastic surgeon." mark sarcastically replied, as he sat working on the patients arm. farah rolled her eyes, "shut up mark." she cheekily replied. "ouch, that hurt." mark faked a hurt expression.

"so, intern exams are a couple of weeks away. how are you feeling?" derek questioned. "pretty good, i guess. i think i understand most of the context." farah said with a shrug. "are you excited to have your own pack of interns?" mark teased. "absolutely not," farah replied, causing the two attendings to laugh. "how's the sisters, derek?" mark questioned. derek went quiet, farah instantly knew something was wrong. "they're fine mark," derek replied. farah gave him a concerned look, which derek brushed off and refocused on the patient.

"my sister fell off the wagon, again." derek told farah once they were alone. "oh, i'm so sorry derek." farah said, placing her hand on his cheek as she gently rubbed her thumb over it. derek smiled down at her- there was quite a height difference. derek gave the girl a small smile, before spotting meredith storming down the hallway. "is she mad at you?" derek questioned, his brows furrowing. "something like that, well yes. she thinks i stole her mcdreamy." farah said. "but she's my friend, so.." farah added. "so i shouldn't say anything to her?" derek questioned. "no, no, definitely not." farah quickly said.

as they entered the elevator, it became rose- dereks quick fling prior to meredith, addison, meredith and farah. derek then entered the elevator awkwardly.
farah bit her tongue to stop herself from laughing. the elevator stopped, revealing mark sloan. mark stood beside farah, "bet he wishes he took the stairs right about now," mark whispered, "why do we all have similar features though," farah jokingly whispered, knowing the four women did not look alike. mark and farah burst out laughing. derek turned to give them an offended look. the duo quickly covered it up with a cough, causing the neurosurgeon to shake his head. "you two are so alike, i swear." addison remarked, causing farah and mark to look at each other with frowns. "you're an intern." mark stated. "you're a man whore." farah stated in response.

they then turned to face addison, "we are not alike." mark replied. the whole elevator gave off an 'okay, if you say so' vibe. once the elevator reached farah's destination, she calmly walked out.

farah, dr burke and dr marlowe stood over the patient, operating. farah didn't want this surgery, not with cristina wanting to specialise in cardio. farah could practically feel cristina's eyes burning through farah from the gallery. "15 blade, suction please. dr burke, you're not using the superior trans-septal approach for the atriotomy, are you?" dr marlowe questioned. "is that a problem?" dr burke questioned, his arrogance present in his voice. "not at all, unless your intention is to kill the patient." dr marlowe replied. farah's eyes widened with shock, as did most of the o.r. "um, dr marlowe, from what i have read-" dr burke began. "reading about a procedure is one thing and performing it, is quite another. my mistake, i shouldn't of allowed you to scrub in. you should simply observe from now onwards." de marlowe told burke, causing the head of cardio to step back. "miller, suction please. hurry up." dr marlowe instructed, farah nodded, following through with the task.

burke and farah stood in the scrubbing room, the pair had become decent acquaintances. "some surgery, and dr marlowe was..." farah said before realising it hadn't been a good surgery for burke. "he's brilliant, he's a very gifted surgeon." burke replied with a shrug. "i have a question," farah begin, burke nodded in response. "when you moved the atrium to the vena cava, why did you switch from 3-0 to 5-0 sutures?" farah questioned, wanting to learn.  "you want to use the finest sutures you can for vascular structures. delicate tissue demands delicate touch." burke explained, farah nodded. "that makes sense, thanks burke." farah thanked before heading for the door. "miller," burke called, farah stopped and turned. "good job in there today, you'll make an excellent surgeon." burke complimented. farah nodded, "thank you." before exiting the room.

farah saw dr marlowe and cristina talking. "it's senseless, coming here, chasing after a job that was beneath me just so i could be near a woman who... a woman who apparently no longer exists." farah overheard dr marlowe say to cristina before rushing off, she also developed the sense they were on first name basis. farah frowned, about to go over when meredith rushed over to comfort her friend.

later on in the evening, farah came to the realisation that her date with derek was soon. the girl showered and changed into a light blue dress. it wasn't too fancy, but it wasn't her plain scrubs and white lab coat. farah applied a light layer of natural makeup and left her hair down in its natural curls.

farah heard a knock on mark's door, where she had been getting ready. farah rushed over- before mark had the chance to. farah opened the door, revealing derek shepherd in a grey button up shirt with black pants. farah's breath hitched. "hey, derek" farah calmly greeted. "y-you look beautiful," derek complimented, seeming a little nervous himself.

derek and farah found themselves sitting at a table at a restaurant, discussing their days at work as well as many other things. the date was beautiful, it only made farah miller like, or maybe love, the man more.
