It was the last day of their senior year. Mike and Dave sat in the back of Mrs. Wilson's Psychology class waiting for the sweet release that came with the ringing of that final bell. The year was 1996 and the world awaited.
Mike was nearly six foot tall with reddish-brown hair pulled into a ponytail that hung to his shoulder blades. He wasn't as fit as Dave who had been on the wrestling team, but he was far from unhealthy. His skin was pale and covered with freckles that only seemed to get worse every summer when he would spend too much time on the beach.
Dave was almost the same height as Mike, with short blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. His skin was darker as he tanned far better then Mike did. He kept himself dressed in the highest fashion as opposed to Mikes's blue jeans t-shirt and flannel tied around his waist.
As the bell tolled students filled the halls of Georgetown Highschool, some for the last time ever. Sure Graduation was on the Football field in three days, but never again would they enter the science labs, or walk the hall from the Cafeteria to the Auditorium. It was the end of one phase of life and the beginning of another.
Mike grabbed his backpack and bolted out the door towards the student parking lot, Dave was not far behind him. Their friend Simon was already waiting next to Billy's Jeep for everyone to arrive. He was shorter than the other two and had a penchant for wearing jean shorts and a t-shirt every chance he got.
They sat against the car waiting for the last of their group to join them.
"So fellas just putting this out there, Mission Impossible tonight at Inlet Square, then scoping some honey at the pier?" Simon said to his companions.
Mike lit a cigarette and took a drag shaking his head, "Nope we have some other plans tonight amigo, and you can thank me when we get there."
Dave looked at Mike with concern, "Seriously you gotta quit with those things especially on school grounds."
Mike laughed, "What are they gonna suspend me? Hell with that man I have done my time and tonight I am free."
A young brunette girl ran up and wrapped her arms around him from behind causing him to jump slightly. Sarah was just over five foot tall with long auburn hair and emerald green eyes. Her shorts were cut off just barely to point that the school would allow them and she wore a Metallica Ride The Lightning t-shirt. Mike turned and placed his hands on her waist smiling down at her.
"So not only do you sneak up on me, but you stole my shirt too babe," he said before lifting her chin delicately and pressing his lips to hers.
She broke the kiss and snatched the cigarette from his hand, "You like it better on me and you know it.", she took a drag from the cigarette and spun away from him, "Thanks for the smoke honey see you tonight."
As she skipped off the guys all watched her, she caught up to two other girls and disappeared into the parking lot.
"I still can understand how you landed that metalhead," Dave said playfully punching Mike in the shoulder.
Simon nodded, "He chased her for four years and was a nightmare to anyone she dated."
Mike shot him a glance, and Simon threw his hands up, "Hey bro to be fair she did the same thing to you, you guy literally should've just hooked up since day one, would've made a lot of guys and girls happier."
Mike shrugged, pulling out another cigarette, to replace the one Sarah had stolen. Dave smacked him on the shoulder and pointed at the career center entrance.
"There's Billy better inhale that thing, you know he won't let you smoke in the car."
Billy and Mike had been best friends since the sixth grade. Billy was a little taller than Mike and because he was in JROTC he kept his blond hair in a high military cut. He dressed in a similar fashion to Simon and almost always wore sandals when he could get away with it.
