Sam and Jasmine could hear noises coming from further under the house. Jasmine grabbed a 2x4 while Sammy grabbed an old tennis racquet. They crept along the outer wall with their makeshift weapons at the ready.
Rounding the corner they stumbled upon Simon Tiff and Sarah. Startled Sammy let out a girlish scream and fell back. The ridiculousness of the sound coming from him made the others bust out laughing.
Sarah leaned against the wall giggling as Simon helped the young man up. "Gee Sammy, bet you're glad Barbara didn't see that."
Sammy brushed his pants off, "you startled me is all, How the hell did you get down here?"
Simon, "Mike and Jasmine's hookup trapdoor, guess it was before either of the two of you filled out."
Jasmine smiled, "Well yeah until my parents figured it out, so where's Dave? He should've been able to fit through."
Simon lowered his head, while Tiff and Sarah all looked away. The lack of response and silence was confirmation of Jasmine's fears. She felt the strength leave her legs and slowly sank to the ground.
Sammy knelt down to console her, and looked up at Simon, "What happened?"
Simon shook his head, "Not sure, he fell off the stair, Mike went to get help, cause the phones aren't working."
Jasmine began to shake back and forth and Sarah joined Sammy in trying to keep her calm. Tiff and Simon stood watching as they huddled around her. They all remained silent as Jasmine began to cry.
After several moments Sammy began to look around for somewhere to sit her that she could be comfortable. In the back corner he noticed the old couch and chairs where they had all played as children. He motioned to Simon and together they moved her over to and sat her down. Sarah sat with her as she sobbed and held her.
Sammy pulled Simon aside, "Dude, what about Billy and the others are they back?"
Simon shook his head, "I mean we ran inside and were hiding upstairs when Dave found us, he went to the third floor looking for Mike, and then he just came down."
Sammy processed for a brief second then looked back at Jasmine, "Mike didn't do this did he?"
Simon got angry, "What the fuck man, Mike and Sarah were downstairs in one of the bedrooms, they didn't even know anything was going on at first."
Sammy shrugged, "Hey I'm just trying to figure out what happened? Were those things in the house?"
Simon shook his head, " I didn't see any, I mean I didn't really see anything Tiff said she saw what looked like people coming through the wall but maybe that was Billy and Brandon."
Sammy glanced towards the door at the back of the basement, "We could look outside see if there's anything out there."
Simon and Sammy slowly made their way to the door. Sammy stood to one side ready to help Simon close it. They silently counted to three and then slowly opened the door to see only the back yard as they had left it.
Confused Sammy stuck his head slightly out and began looking in every direction for potential danger. Satisfied there was nothing to fear he slowly made his way outside gingerly stepping forward and out into the open. He looked around for a moment then scratched his head before returning to the basement.
"There's nothing out there man, what the fuck?" he said to Simon as they closed the door back.
"But you saw something before right?", Simon asked him.
"Dude I swear it looked like they were some kind of Zombie soldiers or some shit man."
Simon walked back to check on the girls and make sure they were still ok. Jasmine had composed herself now but was still obviously shaken. Sarah seemed to be acting as the rock she needed to get through this. Tiff was quietly walking around the space staring at the walls and humming to herself.
"Do you think it's safe to get out of here?" Simon asked Sammy
"Jasmine thinks we're safe down here, and right now she needs that." he said looking around the lowly lit walls.
"Why does she think it's safe?"
"She went and saw the Craft when it came out a few weeks ago, and her and some friends came down here trying a bunch of that wiccan stuff, she says the marks they painted are protecting us."
Simon looked around to see what he was talking about, "You mean to tell me something she picked up from a movie is supposed to keep us alive?"
Sammy shrugged, "You got a better idea I'm all ears."
Simon didn't have a better idea, he merely shrugged and went and sat in one of the old dusty chairs that filled the area. Tiff eventually made her way over to where he was and sat with him, in silence. Sammy took a spot near one of the doors and waited.
They weren't sure how long it took but after some time they could hear the sounds of a large truck pulling up and see flashing red lights coming in through the vents in the walls. Simon and Sarah stood up and started looking around to wait and see what was happening as they heard loud footsteps above them.
The door from the back flew open and for a moment they all jumped as a figure walked in. Mike stepped into the light and surveyed the area, before looking back over his shoulder and giving a thumbs up. He began waving to the others to follow him.
"Come on guys lets get outa, I got the calvary."
Sarah leapt from the sofa and ran, throwing her arms around him.
"I'm so glad you're ok babe, did anything happen?"
Mike nodded, "Saw something freaky but no, we were fine, but I have some really bad news."
Sarah looked concerned as she glanced outside to see Barbara waiting impatiently.
"What happened?" she asked, pulling back slightly.
Mike looked over at Sammy and Jasmine, "Let's get everyone out of here first, and wait out front for the police. I'll tell you guys when we're all out there."
Mike led them out of them basement and through the gate to the Fire Truck that was waiting outside, he motioned towards Jasmine and a pair of medics brought her a blanket and started checking her out.
Mike waited until everyone was around them, he cleared his throat and tried to think of how to relay the news.
"Ok so Billy and Julia are ok, they're at Billy's house, but ummm." he paused and looked at Barbara who gave him an encouraging nod. "Brandon was hit by a drunk driver when they were walking back here it seems. They arrested the guy, but Brandon didn't make it."
