Sammy Jasmine and Dave walked the path around to the Crypt near the far corner of the cemetery. As they walked Sammy noticed strange Paver stones set in the ground at the corners of the path and near the walls of the cemetery. He knelt down as they reached the far corner and examined the one there.
"Jasmine, come look at this?" he said waving his older sister over.
Jasmine had been clinging close to Dave, but at her brother's beckon she released him and rushed over. She saw the stone he was focused on and began to recognize the symbols on it. For some time Jasmine had been interested in the occult and these symbols were symbols of warding, meant to create a type of seal.
"Uhh, those are warding symbols, and like some serious stuff." she said.
Sammy began pointing around the path where he could see the other stones. They were practically surrounding the church grounds and there were more of them the closer you the church they got. They exchanged a glance and then slowly started making their way to the wall.
"Dave, baby," Jasmine said as she got closer to the low wall between them and Duke street, "I think we need to get out of here."
Dave looked back at the others almost a hundred yard away, Billy seemed to be knelt down looking at something.
"Why don't we go meet up with the other and get them?" he said.
Sammy pulled on his shoulder, "Bro, they are all the way on the other side of the cemetery, and maybe sixty feet from the gate on Highmarket street, we are practically a block away and would have to cross the fucking graveyard filled with protection stones."
Dave looked around the path and the crypt. He had seen the stones the whole time but hadn't paid them any attention. Now he realised just how many there were. As he began to protest abandoning the other a loud scream erupted from within the grounds.
They ran to the wall, both young men helping Jasmine over the fence before scaling it themselves. As he swung his leg over the wall Dave glanced back at the church. For a moment he could swear he saw several figures walk right out of the very walls of the ancient building.
Once they were on the sidewalk the three of them took off towards the house. They hardly paid any attention to the truck that Passed them and headed towards the Highmarket. They reached the back gate and Sammy began trying to fumbling with the lock trying to open it. Jasmine looked back down the street and to her horror she saw a figure slowly shambling in their direction.
It was larger and appeared misshapen in the shadows. As it came towards them it dragged it's left leg behind it. In its hand was some kind of strange weapon. Jasmine let out a scream and when she did it began moving faster.
Dave and Sammy turned to see they're stalker approaching. Dave looked around for anything he could use as a weapon, seeing a large branch near the street. Dave grabbed it, holding it like a baseball bat and stepped in front of Jasmine.
"If you want her you gotta get through me you ghostly fuck." he shouted.
The figure slowed and approached the light of a street lamp, "Ain't nobody trying to mess with that crazy girl white boy, I just wanted to make sure yall was all right."
Drunk Carl stepped into the light, a bottle of whiskey in his hand. He wore his old military jacket and a pair of dirty jeans. His weaker arm hung useless to one side and he drug his left leg, a constant reminder of the accident that destroyed his life. His hair and beard were badly in need of attention and he squinted at the three of them.
"Little Sammy, that is you right, ya'll aint trying to cause no trouble is ya."
Sammy breathed a sigh of relief, and moved past Dave who still stood ready to protect Jasmine, "No sir Mr. Carl we aren't causing any trouble we just got spooked by a loud noise and were trying to get in the gate."
Drunk Carl stopped and looked around, "What in the world spooked the three of yall."
Sammy looked at him, "You didn't hear that loud scream a few minutes ago Mr, Carl?"
Carl looked at his bottle for a moment then at the three of them, "Oh so that one wasn't in my head, well shit I need to get more whiskey."
He turned around and began to walk back the way he had come. His form once again resembling something sinister in the dark. As he got further away they returned to trying to open the gate but it was jammed.
Jasmine ran around to the door to the porch steps and tried the handle, fortunately they had not locked it.
"Guys over here," she said waving them to her.
They ran and made their way up onto the porch. The front door was closed and locked, so they walked around to the side door by the kitchen. As they reached the side stars a figure walked out of the door on to the porch slowly coming towards them.
Jasmine was at the corner of the porch and when she turned to go back she saw a second figure climbing the steps from the street. The figures appeared almost translucent. They appeared deformed with what looked like burnt skin. This close she could make out what looked like a British uniform. The figures closed on them and they had no choice but to abandon the porch and run into the yard.
The ran down to the yard and started towards the back of the house. Jasmine saw the door to the basement and grabbed Sammy and Dave pulling them towards it. As the ghostly figures closed on them she pulled them all inside and slammed the door shut. She slid the bolt securing the door and slowly backed away from it.
Sammy reached over his head turning on a light so they could see around them. The door and several walls had sigils painted on them. They were similar to the symbols they had seen in the cemetery but still different in a lot of ways.
"What the fuck is this shit?" He said reaching up to touch one of the symbols.
Jasmine slapped his hand away, "They're supposed to be warding symbols, me and a couple girls painted them in her after we watched that movie The Craft. I mean we thought it was bullshit, but I figured it was worth a shot."
Dave surveyed the area around them. It was mostly open with pillars built up as walls in several places. He noticed the symbols were on several of them including the door that came out by the back steps. Seeing the door reminded him of something.
"Mike and Sarah we're in the house, they don't know that anything is going on."
Jasmine's face went slack, "We've gotta tell them, maybe if we get them down here we can ride this out til morning."
Dave ran to the door at the back of the house and peeked out. Satisfied the coast was clear he opened it and stepped out.
"I'll run in and find them, you guys stay here." he said.
Before they could protest Dave was gone, and Sammy and Jasmine were trapped under the house. Left to wait with no idea when if ever this ordeal would end.
