You were spiraling. This dream of yours wasn't turning out so great. You were walking down this never-ending corridor, the light at the end stretching farther and farther now. "Only I would be caught up in this symbolic shit," You sighed.
Wait. The exit stopped moving. You hesitantly stepped forward, but it stayed put. Should you go through it? You guess there's no choice. Gradually you succumbed to the bearing light..."Ah!". Jerking awake, you knew something was wrong. A quick glance at the clock told you it was 8 in the morning, but usually, you woke up at 10 for your morning shift. You racked your brains to try to figure out the reason for your sudden consciousness, and then it hit you.
Two strong presences of Nen were right outside your door. They most likely couldn't tell you were a Nen user since you've been using Zetsu (blocking your Nen) for some time now.
"Who could it be? It wouldn't be him- right? No, I haven't seen him in years. Still, why would a Nen user need to approach me? I haven't openly used Nen at all, no one should know I use it, or at least care. So maybe it is him- I need to be prepared.".
You grabbed a kitchen knife due to a lack of a better weapon and started moving towards your apartment door. Since you haven't been practicing Nen very recently this situation would favor you if you refrained from using it.
"Can I help you?" You ask as you opened the door. In front of you stood two kids, probably no older than 12. The one on the left had black hair and a green outfit, while the other had white hair and a blue turtleneck. "You were here the whole time? But we didn't sense your Nen!" The one on the right exclaimed. "That's because I don't use Nen," You responded.
"That's impossible, then how did you land a hit on Hisoka?" The white-haired kid questioned. Upon hearing his name you froze, and accidentally let some of your bloodlust slip out. "Look, I don't know why or how you two kids found me, but I assure you I don't know what you're talking about, so-" You started to close the door on them, but then the green kid spoke up.
"Wait! We're not here to ask you to join us or anything, we just want some pointers on how you landed a hit on Hisoka in the Heaven's Arena ten years ago. Only one other person's been able to do that, and Hisoka just took him out! We need to know how exactly you landed that one hit.".
Taking in his words, you also stared at his face, full of determination. You sighed. "Alright then, come on in."."Bye (Y/n), thanks for the tips!" Gon chided, and Killua gave you a short wave. "Wait, there's one thing I want to ask you, Gon," You call out to him. He turns around. "Why did you come to me for advice? I thought you liked to figure things out on your own.".
"Actually, I didn't want advice from you," He responded. "I was just curious to see who this other person was, and if they were really strong enough to go against Hisoka.".
You stared at him, but then chuckled. "I see. Well then, I'm sorry to disappoint, but I'm not nearly as strong as you thought I was.".
Gon grinned. "I don't think that's true, (Y/n). Anyways, it was nice meeting you!".
Gon and Killua left, leaving you amused. "So somehow he knew I still practiced Nen. Huh, what a surprise. Anyway, wasn't I supposed to be doing something?" You gazed at the clock, 2 hours have passed since you woke-
"Holy shit! I'm going to be late for work!" You shouted, quickly grabbing your coat and dashing out your apartment.9 PM. You sighed. Your job took up most of your day, but at least you were home now. Shrugging off your coat, you made your way to your room, about to peel off your clothes when you sensed something.
Him.
"What are you doing here?" You quickly asked, your eyes scanning the darkness. For a moment you had no reply, but you didn't doubt your instincts. You slowly edged your way to the kitchen counter where a knife was just in case he decided to attack you... no. If he wanted you dead, it would have happened already. "I said, what are you doing here..."
"Hisoka"
A body emerged from the shadows at your left, and you turned to face it. He paces towards you, the moonlight from your window falling over his figure. Finally, you took in your old friend's features. He wore a black crop top with a turtleneck and his signature heart and diamond decorating it. Furthermore, he had a loose white trousers and black heels. "The heels are so him," You thought to yourself.
"So we meet again, (Y/n),♡" He said, grinning while he checked you out. "My, you certainly have grown.♡"
"I could say the same for you, Hisoka," You replied, slowly relaxing against the counter. "I won't ask again, what do you want from me?".
"What, I can't catch up with an old friend?♤" He pouted, but you weren't buying it. "You had 10 years to catch up with me, so why come now? Is this about Gon? You know, it's pretty sick to beat up a kid like that. As strong as he is he won't be able to beat you.".
"No, this isn't about Gon, but imagine my surprise as I was tailing him when he found my childhood acquaintance, especially when I looked so hard for you when you first disappeared.♤".
"Well I guess you didn't look hard enough," You shrugged. If you didn't know better you'd say he looked hurt, but you know better. "What? You're not going to humor me? Tell me where you went when you left the arena? Surely you didn't stay here the entire time?".
You scoffed. "You're saying you finally discovered me and didn't do a background check? You know I've been living here since then.".
"Well, I know you've taken a job at a nearby photography shop. You have no friends, no social life, and no other hobbies. You seem to be exceptionally average," The redhead leaned towards you, now only inches away. "But I think we both know that's not true.♡".
"Really? What exactly is not so average about me? Aside from the fact I'm currently talking with a murderous clown.".
He continued, but pursed his lips at your clown remark. "You've been practicing Nen in secret," He paused, waiting for a reaction from you. You inwardly cursed, how did he know that?
"Despite having no trainer you have excelled quite well. And I also know," His voice goes quiet, and he brings his face near your ear. "That you wouldn't have signed up to fight me if you could help it. And you wouldn't have left... Heaven's Arena willingly. So tell me, who was it? Did you make another friend? Find love? Or did someone threaten you?♤" Hisoka's voice slightly lowered at the end, sending chills down your back. "I have no idea what you're talking about," You retort, but he pulls away and tilts your head up with his hand. "Don't play coy with me,"
Tsking, you turn your head away from him, angrily collecting your thoughts. "Why the hell do you care now anyway?" You demand. "I was embarrassed that you beat me. I left. Simple as that.".
"Why don't you stop lying to me. Or I'll prove I'm just as intent on murdering you now as I was back then.♤".
Jerking your head back, you searched his eyes for any sign of a bluff but there were none, just golden pools of malice staring back at you. Sighing, you asked him "Why do you want to know anyway? This was years ago, you could have just let it go.".
"Consider it catching up between friends. Closure.♧" He leaned back from you, giving you your space. You thought for a moment. Was telling him what happened worth it? You sighed again. "Sit down,"
He obliged, plopping down on your couch and crossing his legs. You took another look at your old friend. You actually have been keeping tabs on him. You knew he failed his hunter's exam last year because he attacked a proctor, but he passed this year. That was dangerous, since with his license he could kill without repercussions. To any normal person, he was dangerous, someone to be avoided, someone to tense up with. So why weren't you afraid?"Let me refresh. Let's start at the beginning.".
