As I finished off my make-up I heard a quick knock on the door. Without hesitation I grabbed my bag, ran down the stairs and to the front door.
Standing on my doorstep with the most breathtakingly cute grin is Ashton Knight, my boyfriend of the last three years.
“Hello gorgeous, you ready to go?” he asked.
“Yep, give me two seconds I just need to grab something for breakfast” I said with a laugh. No matter how early I get up, I never seem to have enough time to actually make breakfast before leaving for school.
“Ah, beat you to it!” he said holding out a plate I hadn’t noticed before. On it sat two strawberry Pop Tarts.
My eyes lit up at the sight of my favourite breakfast. I grinned up at him, “You’re the best you know that?”
“I’ve been known to have my moments” he replied with a cheeky grin. He swooped down and grabbed my gym bag with my cheerleading uniform in it. I secretly admired his muscles ripple as he leant down.
“When you’re finished checking me out, we can go. Don’t wanna be late for our first day of Senior Year. It would be such a shame.” He said with a wink.
I slapped his chest. “I was not checking you out!” I lied. “I was... um... reading your t-shirt! Yeah that’s what I was doing, reading!” I said sticking my tongue out at him childishly.
“My t-shirt is plain white Ella” he said with a chuckle. I shook my head and sprinted to the car eager to finish my breakfast.
With all the grace of a dancer, Ash climbed into his red Volvo and started the car. Ironic seeing as he’s a quarter-back for the Cooper High School Cubs, our National winning football team. Clichéd, I know right?
“So, you ready for senior year Els?”
“Meh, I’m more excited for Regional’s! We’re going to kick ass this year!” I said with enthusiasm. Being head cheerleader this year, means we have to win!
“Yeah? Hmm... I wouldn’t mind seeing you in that sexy little uniform again soon.” He said with a look in his eyes that I know only too well.
I laughed. “Boys and their one track minds.” I said to no one in particular.
I heard a chuckle come from the seat beside me, but I wasn’t paying attention to him anymore. As we stopped outside a large, red brick house my heart sank. This was Paige’s house. The same Paige that vowed that this year she will make Ashton stop seeing her as a friend, but as a girlfriend. Needless to say, we weren’t close. But we were civil for Ash’s sake.
Ashton beeped his horn twice and within seconds, Paige was walking down her drive. Ash hopped out of the car and engulfed her in a bear hug. A surge of jealousy ran through me, but I quickly controlled it. I stepped out of the car and went to say hello to the wicked witch –er, Paige.
“Ella, darling, did you have a good summer?” she said in a false enthusiastic voice.
“Paige.” I said with a tight smile. “My summer was great! Ashton and I had a great time in California, didn’t we babe?” I said, smiling up at him. I couldn’t help but feel triumphant to see the flash of annoyance in Paige’s eyes.
“Yeah it was great! The campus was amazing! And they offer great scholarships for football and cheerleading.” He said beaming.
My heart melted. Yep, after three years he was still able to make my legs feel like jelly.
“Aw well that’s good. I went to Paris for a photoshoot, then Daisy and I went to Monte Carlo for some relaxation time. Oh my God, Ella you would love it! We went to this one place and the waiters walked around in just pants. You’re into that stuff aren’t you?” she said wickedly.
I groaned inwardly. Curse Ashton and his big mouth.
