"Alright girls, take it from the top!" I yelled. They groaned unanimously.
"And anymore of that moaning and you will ALL have to do 50 sit-ups, do I make myself clear?" I said calmly, although anybody who looked up could see the obvious anger etched into my features.
"But we've already done 200!" Said a sophomore.
"Well then you've had a lot of practice for the extra hundred your going to do after this drill."
More groaning.
I nodded at Kristen to play the music again and stood to face the group of people in front of me. To my surprise we even had a couple of guys trying out!
"Ready guys?" I called.
"1 and 2 and 3 and 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8!"
I surveyed the room in a search for talent. I silently noted and few people, writing down their names. One girl in particular cause my attention. She was a freshman Suri Yang. She was small, lithe and would make a perfect flyer.
After a further hour of try-outs I called it a day.
"Alright girls! Well done today! I know it was intense, but I promise that was just to see how many of you have what it takes to become a national winning cheerleader." I smiled.
"Can the following people stay behind, the rest of you may go. A list of successful people will be posted on the cheer board that is situated in the locker room hallway."
The faces in the room nodded at me. The atmosphere was tense.
"Can Adam Connors, Robert Meyers and Suri Yang please stay behind. The rest of you thank you and best of luck! You were all great but unfortunately I can only pick 6 of you!"
Suri's face lit up and the guys looked pretty impressed with themselves.
I motioned for Kristen to come over and join me.
"Hey Ella! Great try outs today! A lot of potential, eh?" She said excitedly.
"Yeah tell me about it! K, do me a favour?"
"Yeah sure?"
"Could you go get Zoey for me? She's in English Lit in room 265. Tell her I need her."
"Sure!"
I smiled and turned to the three I had kept behind.
"Erm, Ella, why are we here?" Asked Suri in a small voice.
"Ah, all we be explained soon. Now, Robert and Adam, go sit on the bleachers. Suri hun, can you go stand on the mats over there." I said motioning to the mats by the climbing frame.
The guys positioned themselves on the bleachers awaiting further instruction.
"Okay Suri, can you do a backhand spring, back flip and land in a round off?" I said testing the waters.
She nodded obediently. I watched in awe as she executed each move perfectly.
"Gymnast?" I asked incredulously.
"Yep" she said popping the p, "I train for 2 hours everyday. I hope to go to the Olympics in 2016, I was too young for them this year!"
My jaw dropped. An Olympic class gymnast on our cheerleading team.
"Well Suri, you can guarantee yourself a place on the squad Hun!" I said excitedly.
Suri looked up at me her brown eyes glittering with excitement. She pulled me into a hug.
"Thank you thank you!" She cried. "You won't regret this!"
And I was sure I wouldn't.
Kristen arrived with Zoey trailing behind her and I called to Robert an Adam.
"Thanks for coming Zoey." I said warmly."
"Thanks for getting me out of English lit." She laughed.
I motioned for Suri to come and stand beside me.
"Suri, this is Zoey she's our flyer." Zoey smiled and waved.
"Zoey this is Suri. She's a gymnast and the newest member of the squad!" I said excitedly.
Zoey gave me a look of approval and I flashed her a grin.
I stood back and watched as Zoey coordinated the guys and Suri, putting them all through the paces.
After another 90 minutes I called the training session to a close.
"Okay you guys are good to go. Sorry we kept you so long."
'S'okay." The boys murmured and Suri smiled graciously at me.

I stepped out of the shower, wrapped a towel around my body and walked into my room. I plugged by iPod into the docking station and started dancing to some David Guetta song. I was getting really into it too until I heard my phone ring.
"Don't it feel good babe
Don't it feel good baby
Cause it's so brand new babe it's so brand new baby."
I laughed at Bruno Mars and silently vowed to kill Ashton for changing it again.
"Yelloowww!" I beamed down the phone.
