It was a promise I was not able to keep.
"Oh dear god," I cried, turning to bury my face in his shoulder.
Oh god he smelt good. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath trying to slow my heart and memorize the scent at the same time. It was like the smell of fresh rain, leather, and boy all mixed to perfection.
"Its okay Addison," he cooed in my ear, his hand stroking my hair.
"Shut up," I demanded over the screams of the girl on screen.
"It's just a movie Addi," Izzy commented from her curled up position.
"I hate both of you," I cried into his shirt.
"Uh huh okay," she said between handfuls of popcorn. "Mason this place is great," she whispered.
"Yea I know," he answered, still holding me, "I used to come here all the time with the guys..." his voice trailed off as I looked up at him.
"Hey scaredy cat," he smiled down at me.
"Shut up," I croaked, trying to push away from him, but he held me tight.
"What is the use in pushing me away?" he whispered his voice was sensual. "You're just gonna dive back in my arms." The smile on his face was cocky and it made my heart race.
"You sound mighty sure of yourself," I shivered slightly as his breath washed over me.
"Let's just say I'm very confident in my charms," the smile broadened.
"Well I'll just have to prove you wrong," I pushed against him and turned back to the screen, just in time to see the screaming girl get her head cut off.
"Ahhh," I screamed once again before diving back under his arms to hide my red face in his shirt.
"Shhhh," he cooed, "I've got you."
"Stop trying to comfort me," I cried, but burrowed closer to him so that I was practically on his lap.
"Why are you so scared?" he asked, catching me off guard again.
"I'm not scared," I tried, "I'm terrified," I admitted as his hand started rubbing my back gently.
"But why? It's not real," he reasoned, but I shook my head against his chest.
"It doesn't matter that this movie is not real," I took a peek up at him to see him looking down at me, "it's the possibility that the situation could be real," I took a big gulp of air and then pressed my cheek to his heart beat. "I imagine that it's me everyone is watching get hacked to bits. I can almost feel the blades dragging across my skin as I scream," his hand stilled on my back under my shiver. "It's horrible."
"She has an overactive imagination," Izzy supplied when I had grown quite. "It's the reason we don't ever watch these kinds of movies."
The lights came back on, the screaming finally over I let out a loud sigh.
"Better?" Mason asked as I untangled myself from him.
"Much," I breathed.
The cold, damp air stung as we stepped back out onto the street, the screams still echoing in my ears.
