Chapter Six

~A few weeks later~

Emmy had been working hard for the last few weeks. Riley had been out of the office a lot. Kevin was gone more than usual, and the kids just as much. She had a nagging feeling Kevin was cheating on her. She expressed as much to Darcy.

Darcy: "Why would you think he's cheating?"

Emmy/EmmaGrace: "He's been gone a lot lately. He's just being distant."

Darcy had been let in on the surprise just for situations like this.

Darcy: "He's been busy, Emmy. That man loves you. You never had a problem with him being gone before."

Emmy couldn't figure that out herself. She couldn't figure out why it was bothering her.

Emmy/EmmaGrace: "I don't know. I keep asking myself the same thing."

Darcy: "He's just busy. Give him time."

Darcy sends Kevin a text.

~Text conversation~

Darcy- "She thinks your cheating. If you want your relationship to survive it. You need to hurry."

Kevin- "Seriously?"

Darcy- "Yeah, she just had a total meltdown on me."

Kevin- "Good thing we finish tonight."

~End text conversation~

Emmy went to her office to do payroll for the week. When Riley calls her.

~Phone conversation~

Riley- "We need to close the bakery Sunday."

Emmy- "Why?"

Riley- "Well, Darcy and I have plans and can't work. You can't run it by yourself."

Emmy- "Kevin and the boys can help. It's just one day."

Riley- "Ok."

Emmy- "Bye."

Riley- "Bye."

~End phone conversation~

Riley tells Kevin.

Riley: "You have to make up something. She's going to ask you for help Sunday."

Kevin: "I'll tell her I am taking the boys to my parents tonight. We will stay in a motel so we can come here and work before Sunday.

It was Friday, so it'd be easy to cover.

Kevin sends Emmy a text.

~Text conversation~

Kevin- "EmmaGrace, I'm taking the boys to see my parents this weekend. We will be home Sunday evening. Enjoy your time alone."

Emmy texts Riley.

~Text conversation~

Emmy- "Well, I guess I will just close. Kevin is taking the boys to Ohio this weekend."

Emmy- "Will you and Darcy be here tomorrow?"

Riley- "Yes. It's just Sunday."

Emmy went on about her day. Riley and Darcy were both at work Saturday. Emmy voices get concerns to Riley.

Riley: "Oh, Babycakes. I don't think he's cheating. He wouldn't do that to you."

Emmy/EmmaGrace: "That's what Darcy said too."
