Ocean stood in front of the Owl House, her gripping a pie in her hands. She was dressed in her usual attire, plus a maroon jacket to keep herself warm. She had a bag hanging from her shoulders, her staff peeking out at the top, her Palisman quiet.
Taking a few steps forwards, the house demon would greet the Witch, hooting about. Before she could answer Hooty and all of his different questions one by one, the door swung open, an excited looking Eda standing at the door. She was already dressed in her pajamas, wearing a large, toothy grin."There you are, Ocean! You're late! You bring the good stuff, Squid Lady?" Eda asked as her grin grew, Ocean holding out the pie in response. The Owl Lady's pointed ears perked up slightly as she was shown the pie, taking it from Ocean's hands. As she did so, she stepped away from the doorway, allowing Ocean inside. The Winged Witch would walk through the living room, flopping down on the couch next to King with a heavy sigh. King looked at her in annoyance, her just holding out her hand and giving him belly rubs as an apology for disturbing his sleep.
"I'm sorry I took so long, Edalyn. Another intruder invaded my space and decided it'd be funny to try and spray paint the outside. Thankfully it wasn't hexed or I would've been out there all night long." Ocean explained in a tired tone, watching Eda set the pie down. King was quick to smell the desert delight, escaping Ocean's grasp in favor of the pie. He was about to go and dig into it but Eda just stopped him, yanking it from his grasp.
"Kiddo, it's fine, I promise. I—" Eda started to speak but was interrupted by King. "Eda! Let me have some pie! I had to wait an extra thirty minutes! And it smells different this time. I wanna try it now!" He complained. Eda, staring down at King, sighed heavily. So, in response to his complaining, she walked into her kitchen and grabbed her usual knife and the plates she had set out. Floating in mid air, the plates and knife would quickly move into the living room, placing themselves on the coffee table.
"King, try and keep quiet, Luz is trying to sleep. The walls are thin and you should know that by experience, mister. The amount of times I've been woken up by Hooty is. ." The Owl Lady just stopped herself right there, her pointed ears slightly drooping as her amber eyes rolled in frustration. Setting down the pie, she held out a hand to keep King from eating the dang thing, while her other cut the pie. As soon as the incision was made, something would burst from the middle of the pie: a bright pink Globe Amaranth had sprouted from the pie, the petals falling to decorate it. Eda raised her brows, eyes widening as she looked at the flower. No wonder it smelled different this time, it was a completely different flower.
While she stared at the flower, King went ahead and stole the first piece of the pie, immediately scarfing it down. He went for another piece but was blindsided by the different flower."Hey, what gives? Why is it different, lady? Are you trying to poison us?!" He exclaimed, his eyes widening as he started to put the pieces together. Ocean laughed in response, reaching down to pet King playfully. "No, King, I just decided to use a different flower this time is all. You know I wouldn't poison my favorite demon!"
Ocean could see his eyes go big and all puppy-like, giving the Witch a big hug before looking to Eda, almost asking for a different piece but withholding himself. The Owl Lady scoffed, cutting out a piece for herself and Ocean, sitting next to her friend. A small smile played on her lips, her grabbing a fork so she could start eating her pie. King was on his second piece, making sure not to grab another or he'd be seeing the end of Eda's staff.
The three were silent, enjoying the silence. Luz was already fast asleep, it being late into the night.
Ocean sighed, breaking the silence as she set down her unfinished pie. She didn't feel hungry. In fact, she felt sick, and she knew why that was."Edalyn? May I ask when that potion will be ready? The pain has been getting worse and it's been spreading again. That's. . Why I was late, actually. I was stuck in bed, unable to make the pie. So that's why I was almost an hour late, I apologize." Ocean admitted in a quiet tone, squeezing her thighs together as she shrunk down, resting her hands on her lap. Eda frowned at this, patting Ocean's back lightly before finishing off her pie.
"I got you, Ocean. Potions are waiting in my potions room, ready to be given. Let me go get them for you, alright? Make sure King doesn't eat anymore pie." And with that, Eda stood up, setting her plate down and taking a moment to crack her back. Heading off into another room, she soon came back with a crate of potions, each glowing a bright red. Ocean eyed the potions with fear, her amber eyes wide. She hated the taste of them and even thinking about drinking them made her sick.
"How bad is it?" Eda asked, sitting down next to her friend, pulling her legs up and sitting comfortably. Her body language seemed like she didn't care but her eyes shone with worry, her head tilted slightly. Ocean was nervous at first, her cheeks flushing a light pink. She stuttered out something but her words ultimately failed her, the Winged Witch just lifting her tank top up slightly. Blue veins spiderwebbed up Ocean's rib cage on her right side, the injury itself a glowing blue spot. Eda hissed inwardly, her ears drooping slightly at just the sight. King showed concern as well, his sunken eyes looking away out of both respect and worry.
"Eda, it's fine. I can live with the pain. I just need you to make the potions, alright? Again, it's fi—" "Ocean, you're wasting away." Eda scoffed, earning a look of surprise from Ocean. She sat up straight, letting her tank top fall back down. Huh. She didn't say much else, just looking to the flower that was still in the middle of the pie.
"I'll start making them on time, alright? I don't want my favorite nerd girl dying on me." She chuckled, leaning forwards and lightly punching Ocean in the shoulder, earning a laugh from her. The Winged Witch's cheeks were flushed once more, her pulling her own legs up and facing Eda with a smile, eyes lowered as she looked at the other. Amber eyes full of caring and. . Love.
"Thanks, Edalyn. . You. . Really do mean so much to me, I hope you know. Going from my best friend at Hexside to my best Partner in Crime. I wouldn't have anyone else but you, Owl Lady." Ocean giggled, Eda laughing and snorting in response, which only made Ocean's ears turn the same shade as her cheeks. Ocean looked away, tucking some hair behind her pointed ear. There she goes, doing that nerdy thing again. Some things never change, huh? Still having the same mannerisms decades later.
Feeling a bit better, she reached for her unfinished pie, giving Eda a smile as she started to eat it again. Maybe she should start using this flower much more, it actually made the pie taste so much better! The symbolism behind it though. . That's probably what made it taste so good."Hey, Ocean?" King spoke up, grabbing the attention of the Wild Witches, waiting for him to finish speaking. He kicked his stubby little feet at the coffee table beneath him, tucking his hands behind his back. "Will you be ok? And. . Can I have another piece?"
"Aw, King! I'll be a-ok, 'specially if this old hag is taking care of me! And you can have another piece, I know you like my pies." She laughed. Eda laughed as well, playful pushing Ocean for that 'old hag' comment. Ocean pushes her back, giggling as they started to play fight. Pulling away from the silly slapping game, Ocean stuck out her tongue, Eda snorting in response. She looked to the flower in the middle of the pie, wearing a soft smile.
"So, kiddo, why use a different flower? Feeling adventurous or somethin'?" Eda asked, raising her brows. Ocean looked at the flower, smiling.
"No. . I just thought it would look nice."

In the early hours of the morning, out came Luz into the living room, getting ready for school. Ocean was long gone, and so was the crate. But, a small vase was left in the middle of the table, the flower from last night being left there. Luz tilted her head, her gasping as she recognized the flower.
"Eda! Where did you get this flower?! Did someone give it to you?" She asked, seemingly excited. Eda stuck her head out to see what the commotion was about, her raising her brows. She nodded yes, visibly puzzled about what the Human was so excited about.
"Oh, do you not know the various symbolism behind flowers n' stuff? This is the Globe Amaranth! It basically means immortal love, or, as the Victorians said it:" Luz paused, lifting her foot onto the table and raising a hand dramatically, tilting her head down.
"My love will never fade. . ."
Eda's eyes would go wide as plates, her pointed ears drooping as she stared at Luz. She didn't say anything, only directing her attention to the flower on the table, a barely noticeable blush on her cheeks.
My love will never fade, huh? That'll give her something to think about tonight. .
