the hufflepuff boys filter out of their shared room quickly after you enter behind Cedric. most of them ingnore you or just give a nod and smile as they pass, except a tall brunette whos name you cant quite remember, but you know the boy as one of Ceds best friends
"you better feel special" the boy whispers when he stops by the door as the bruising and bleeding hufflepuff you came in with begins straightening his pile of crumpled bed sheets and blankets. "Diggory would never get physical over a girl"
you cant conceal your smile as you raise your eyebrows in a fake look of disbelief, knowing Cedric has never liked fighting.
"too right, he only gets physical WITH the girl" the last boy to leave joins your quick conversation and you cringe at his words, not wanting to know who else Cedric has been with before you. the two boys push eachother playfully around and they finally dissapear down the spiral staircase, leaving an almost silent and mildly stuffy dormitory. after a pause where you watched Cedrics muscles flex under his shirt as he flattens the last layer of fabric across the now tidy bed,he looks over at you with a smile.
"hows you face?" you ask and travel quickly across the rug to where he stands, assessing his discoloured face once more. the bruising has already increased since the first time you saw him, 10 minutes previously, and the blood from his lip has dried and darkened. Cedrics eyes soften and his grin grows as he lifts both hands to cup you cheeks.
"im fine" he mumbles, kissing you lightly. but the swelling of his bottom lip is prominent and you gently push him back.
"youre not fine, let me fix you" you giggle and pull your wand out as he pouts like a baby, the lump on his lip making it look funnier than it should be. with a light tap and a few healing spells, Cedrics face is almost completly back to normal. "done" you chirp, proud at the sucess of the complex spells.
"its all fixed?" the boy questions, obviously taken back by the exessive knowledge of healing jinxes. you studied over the summer to reverse the broken leg you recieved from tripping down your own stairs.
"mostly" you answer and glance at the blackening bruise spread across his defined cheekbone with a smile. "tough guy looks good on you"
Cedric gives you a flustered grin and pulls you onto the bed with him after emptyig your hands of your wand. you lay for a second, listening to his heavy breathing before speaking up.
"what happened?" you almost whisper, craning your neck to meet his eyes. a flash of guilt flickers across his face and he shifts slightly so his arm around your shoulder is bend enough to run his fingers through your hair. the silence falls again as he thinks but youre feeling particulary patient as you wait and watch his eyes dart from object to object around the room.
"it was just Malfoy being Malfoy" Cedric says simply with a shrug but the look of longing to know more on your face urges him to continue. "he said some stuff about you and me and then it lead to a fight"
a slighlty mischeiveous look in his eyes causes you to laugh and raise your eyebrows. he seems to be avoiding the details as much as possible and you get the feeling you know why.
"so he just hit you?" you half-laugh and he nods with an expression that suggests that the action was completely out of the blue and unfair. "but you hit him back?" you give him the same look a mother would give to a lying child.
Cedrics face twists into a contorted smirk as he strains to stop the proud grin on his lips. "well yeh"
"what happened to your disapproval of violence?" you catch him out and he narrows his brows as you adjust your laying position to rest you head on the headboad to get a more comfortable veiw of the boys thoughtful face. as if bursting to say it, Cedric finally gives up with keeping it vauge and blurts out the exact conversation he'd had with Draco as if reading a script.
"then i said youll always choose me over him and he snapped" Cedrics story ends with a huge grin across his face and a continuous fluter of buterflies in your stomach from comments from both Draco and Cedric. they had both argued over who would be better for you and you feel more wanted than you've ever felt before.
"well thankyou but please don't hate him" you smile and run a hand through this hair as he yawns. it's pretty late now and you expect the hufflepuff boys will want the dormitory back soon. Cedric scoffs.
"why not? he's trying to take you from me" he says, sounding almost upset that your sticking up for the Slytherin.
"but i don't belong to you, do i?" you retaliate, keeping it playful in case the conversation goes south. as much as Cedric is the cutest, most caring and loving boy to ever be interested in you, you still have feelings for Draco and no matter how many times they fight over you, you know you will never chose one over the other.
"i suppose not" Cedric huffs and pulls you into an incredibly tight hug, crushing yours arms under his grip. "just never leave okay?"
his whisper sends a shiver down your spine and your face burns red, a warm feeling fills the pit of your stomach. with a soft kiss you reply, "i won't".
the two of you spend about an hour laying in his bed, mostly in silence until you hear the light and familiar snores pulsing Cedric chest. slowly and quietly, you slide from his embrace and head down to the common room.
the two brunettes from earlier occupy the main sofa and a few other hufflepuffs scatter the room, all chattering quietly as you walk past.
"you off?" Cedrics friends yells as you reach the portrait door. you turn to see him grinning cheekily and you roll your eyes.
"obviously, but he's asleep so don't be loud" you warn and watch their faces light up. in one sudden movement, both boys are up and out of their seats, sprinting towards and up the boys dormitory stairs while screaming and yelling at the top of their lungs. one of them yells Cedrics name and the other mentions your request to stay quiet and you laugh slightly at the stupidity of their actions.
by the time you return to your own common room, almost every Slytherins is in bed and the fire is the only noise in the room. you see the outline of a platinum blonde boy sitting with his back against the arm of a long sofa, legs outstretched and head droopy. as you near, Malfoy sniffles sleepily and shifts his position slightly so his closed eyes and open mouth are visible to you. a small, adoring smile spreads over your face as you admire how innocent the boy looks when he isn't scowling horridly at you.
your eyes are heavy and your body is weak with the want to sleep. the thought that you get to wake up on a lesson-free saturday relaxes you slightly and looking down on sleeping Malfoy makes you want to curl up and rest with him. but the thought that he'll kill you for it is dismissed by the new relationship between the two of you. you can snuggle up to him now, you can rest your head on his chest and you can fall asleep in his arm. he won't threaten you and jinx you and Pansy can't try to replace you in his presence. so that what you'll do.
your shadow darkens Malfoys face as you kick your shoes of quietly into the floor and scan for an opening between the boys legs. he stirs and you apologise in a hushed whisper which is calmly returned by a lazy grin. Malfoy stretches his arms out for you and you follow his guide until your laying comfortably between his bent legs, your back against his chest and head on his shoulder.
his breath is warm against the top of your head and you feel sleep slowly creeping up on you as the common room becomes fuzzier in your eyesight. a low, croaky voice whispers in your ear as you're on the edge of sleep.
"i'm glad you came back" Malfoy says and intertwines his fingers with yours. half-conscious, you reply.
"i'll always come back for you"
