Saturday came, and it was too early based sa napag usapan namin ni Sage. he should have arrived at 2 pm, but he was already here at 1 pm. Nasa veranda kami ng bahay inaayos niya yung mga materials na dala niya. I also have my art materials, but only colored pencils and some sketching pencils. However, I could already tell how extra he is. He bought a lot, even mini canvases.
"I brought some books too. You can study this one since it talks about how to draw figures," he handed me the book and went back to organizing our materials for the day.
I sat down, and he handed me a pencil for sketching that he had sharpened.
"Here," I accepted it.
He sat beside me and started explaining the basics again for me to practice sketching the head.
"I guess you're doing great at drawing a head."
"Really?"
"Uh-huh. You're getting there."
"I like to use this method a lot, but you know, someday I want to be as good as you."
"Just try and keep practicing the Loomis method. You're more comfortable with that method, right?"
"Yeah, I'm starting to get the hang of it."
He nodded, and I repeated sketching. I tried the reference I picked.
I glanced at his sketchbook. He is really good, even without a reference. He can even sketch me without looking at me.
"Who's your reference?"
"You."
"Why me?" he just shrugged and then bit his lips, hiding a smile from me.
"Dedicated, ah?" Sage and I turned to look. It was my brother, and behind him was Beau. His hair was disheveled as usual, and his eyes were much colder. He stared at me for a while, then glanced at the mess on the table before looking back at me and Sage. Why did it feel like I got caught?
"Syempre, passion eh." Sage said and then he chuckled. I quickly glanced at him; he was looking at Beau. It seemed like they were having a staring contest.
"Talaga ba? O may iba pa?" my brother smirked and then looked at me. Lumapit si kuya sakin. Beau pulled a chair and sat in front of me. I didn't realize I was staring at his movements for too long; he arched his brow, perhaps asking why I was staring at him.
My brother took my sketchbook. I glanced at Sage, who was beside me, staring at the pencils in front of him. He looked serious.
"What do you think, Kuya?"
"You're good. I guess, magaling talaga magturo itong si Sage." My brother moved and sat beside Sage.
"Patingin nga ng sketchbook mo?" My brother asked playfully. What's up? Why do I feel like he's teasing Sage?
"Nah, you already saw me draw. Why do you need to see my sketchbook?"
"Why not?" my brother challenged him.
Beau cleared his throat.
"Maybe we should go and practice now? What do you guys think?" Beau said lazily, looking at me.
"It's still early, it's only 1:45 pm. Call time is at 3 pm," Sage said, returning to his sketching. My brother stood up, sat beside me, and started to get a pencil and paper, copying my reference.
"Try to draw something too, Beau. We'll practice later," he said to Beau.
"Or you can go home and sleep for a while, Beau. You know it's still early," Sage said, looking at Beau, smirking.
Beau just shrugged. He raised an eyebrow at me again.
"You're so quiet," Sage whispered beside me.
I looked up at Beau. He was just sitting there lazily, his hair disheveled, looking at us... at me. I couldn't understand him; I couldn't even read what he was thinking right now.
I took a sketch pencil and paper and handed them to him. He looked at my hand before taking them.
"Are you going to teach me how to draw?" he asked. I noticed my brother and Sage pause, but they ignored it.
"Maybe when I get better at drawing..." I trailed off. He smiled.
Time was up, and the three bandmates of my brother finally arrived. The whole session was just Sage teaching us, answering every question my brother had, while Beau was right there, trying to start a bickering session with Sage. I don't know why he was doing that, but I could also sense Sage doing the same to him. However, there were many moments when we all fell into silence and focused on sketching until we were satisfied with our work.
During those quiet moments, I couldn't help but notice Beau glancing at me from time to time. Maybe it was because I was also stealing glances at him...
"What's up?" Ru asked, the group's lead guitarist. They were curious about what we were up to. Agad agad na tumayo si Beau mula sa kinauupuan niya.
"Stop being nosy, Ru," Beau said as he pushed Ru inside the house. Ru was just laughing, and even my brother joined in.
"Damot as always." I chuckled they looked funny. Somehow, I want to hang out with Lily today.
I chuckled. They looked funny. Somehow, I felt like hanging out with Lily today.
"I'll take care of things here, Sage. You should go with them," I said. Tila di nakikinig si Sage. My brother even tapped him to go inside with them.
"I will help you here first. Susunod ako, Kai," Nag angat ako ng tingin kay Sage mula sa pagliligpit.
Nakasandal si Beau sa may pintuan. He was looking at us.
"Pumasok ka na din, Beau. Are you waiting for me? How sweet," Sage chuckled. Beau didn't reply, he just stood there leaning, looking at us while we cleaned up.
"Where's Lily?" I asked Sage. He shrugged. We were almost done... or rather, he was arranging the pencils.
"Do you want to hang out with her? Should I text her?" Sage asked slowly.
"Yeah, but if she's busy, forget it."
"You're going to hang out with Lily?" Beau interjected.
"Uh-huh. We're already friends."
"That's nice to hear," Beau smiled at me.
"I'll text her," Sage said, taking out his phone and typing away.
Beau approached and took the materials from me.
"Let's go inside," I nodded. I glanced at Sage, who was still busy texting.
"Sage?" I called. He looked up and smiled. He quickly took the materials he brought and put them in his bag.
As soon as we entered the house, Sage immediately asked, "Where should I put this?"
I looked at him, questioning why.
"Because I'll be coming back here for practice, right? I'll just leave this here."
"Ah, --"
"Why would you come back?" Beau asked, his grumpy side showing again.
"Why not?" Sage challenged. I sighed and took the bag from his hand.
"Just call me if Lily comes. I don't have a phone," I said, leaving them there and going upstairs to my room.
