Daylight melted away, leaving darkness in its path. Under the mask of darkness Oliver stood, soulless eyes staring down at the hospital bed where his classmate peacefully slept. His eyes never left Josh's messy hair and relaxed face, even as the piercing stares from what lurked in the shadows began to burn through his skin.

"I know you're there." Oliver sighed into the emptiness, stone cold fingers tracing across the warm skin of the sleeping boy. He knew he shouldn't be here, it was too risky. He was already in way too deep.

"It's time." The shadow spoke back, voice too deep to be human. Oliver gasped as his eyes went wide, instinctively moving his body  up against the bed to protect Joshua from the creatures that came out in the night.

"N-no not yet, it's too soon!" Oliver scrambled out, clear panic taking over his body. He wasn't ready yet, which was something he wasn't expecting to feel. He was a monster; a demon. He wasn't meant to feel anything for humans, and yet what he felt for Joshua was unexplainable. He killed his own parents, murdered them, and yet he couldn't bring himself to even harm a boy he had only known for less than a year?

"He's ready, he loves you, son. I can see it in his weak, human thoughts." The darkness laughed tauntingly.

"I-I don't think I can do it." Oliver admitted quietly with a large sign, hating how weak he had become. The walls laughed at his confession, sniggering at the mighty fall of the soulless being. His father laughed too, eyes glowing red as they grazed across the room at the human being sleeping innocently.

"Don't tell me you've caught feeling for a human." The darkness scoffed, another round of laughter bouncing through the silent room. Oliver gulped, tired eyes falling to the floor as shame ran though his dark blood.

"You can't protect him forever, the process has already begun. Soon your darling Joshua will be just as much as a monster as you are."

"N-no!" Oliver screamed, teeth baring like a feral wolf as he felt anger consume every cell of his body. The monster laughed again, enjoying tormenting his child who was trapped among the living. "P-please let me use someone else."

"Now what would be the fun in that? Besides, who cares? He's no different to any other pitiful human on this miserable planet."

"You're wrong! Josh isn't like the others, he's special." Oliver growled defensively, stamping his foot like a toddler having a tantrum. His father smiled, sharp fangs glowing like the moon through the blinding darkness.

"What a shame you can't change destiny, huh? Your precious human will meet his fate one way or another, that I can guarantee."

"Did you have anything to do with what happened to him yesterday?" The lanky boy spat through clenched teeth, not sure if wanted to hear the answer.

"No, my, child. What's happening to Joshua is your fault, you've infected him with the darkness and it's poising his pathetic, human body." The shadow smirked, making Oliver swallow a cry. He couldn't cry now, not whilst the darkness was watching. Creatures like him don't cry, don't feel, only hurt and destroy.

"H-how do I stop it?" He mumbled, hand snaking into the human boys so that he could feel their fingers intertwine; cold meeting warmth once again. Beeping from the heart monitor filled the tense silence, a reassurance to Oliver that Josh's heart was still beating, for now at least.

"I think you already know the answer to that one."

And then they were alone, swallowed by the darkness.
