Ushijima Wakatoshi x Reader

A/N: The screenshot of the manga above may or may not be a spoiler, for those who have not read the Haikyuu!! manga yet. The screenshot is from chapter ~270? This is during the match with Inarizaki.

I rub my slightly swollen eyes and breathe the salty air at the beach.

"You want to play with everybody else Miya?" I softly smile. "I feel... a lot better after talking with you."

"Sure Yumi." Miya helps me up and we both take our time walking over to the courts. "But if you want to take a break, just shout, I'd be honored to help the infamous captain of Shiratorizawa's girls volleyball club" Miya bows her head and lightens the mood.

"Hey hey!!! Miracle boy Satori and Wakatoshi, the best duo in Japan's volleyball history!" Satori shouts and links arms with a grey-haired boy and Ushijima. "Did you see that awesome block and the beautiful spike we landed Semi Semi??"

The gorgeous boy with grey hair laughed along with Satori. "Yes, I was right behind you two. That point was worth a million in my book."

"In my book that point was worth 1." Ushijima stares blankly at the two boys chattering. "Not that close to being worth that much but I appreciate your humble attitude Eita."

Everyone stifles a laugh and I sit on the beach chair near the court. "Nice work girls, carrying Goshiki and his friends against Satori and Ushiwaka."

I lightheartedly laugh and the girls are flattered.

"Yes, Ushijima-kun's spike was flawless... The next ace could never imagine being as good as him." Kawanishi shouts from the sidelines and Goshiki makes a face at Kawanishi and rotates among the court.

"Don't worry, we all tease Tsutomu for being the next ace after Ushiwaka." Semi whispers next to my ear and I jolt in my seat.

"Oh!" I nervously laugh and he sports a look of confusion. "You tickled me there haha... and I agree... it's the team's responsibility to bully each other." I smile and watch the game unfold.

It's Semi, Satori, Ushijima, Akane, Chiyo, and Rei against Goshiki, Shirabu, Yamagata, Hinata, Shizuku and Misaki. Having slightly unbalanced teams resulted with Ushijima's team winning 31-29.

I get up from my seat as we switch players.

"Allllrriiiiighttyyy!! Next game, I want to play wif my bestest bester best friend Yumi-chan~" Satori puts his hand on my head and I giggle.

He lightens up my mood.

"But your best friend Ushijima is sad without you Satori-san..." I play along with Satori.

"I think you need to test your eyes again Yumi-chan. I am not sad." Ushijima walks to the sidelines and sits on a beach chair.

Me and Satori look at each other with mixed expressions while everyone else decides on teams.

"Sorry, you kind of need to get used to Wakatoshi a little bit." Satori scratches his head and wrinkles his nose at Ushijima who returns his look with a head tilt.

"I don't expect much, I don't think I've seen Ushijima smile before" I nervously laugh and Satori looks at me with wide eyes and a ":3" mouth.

"I bet you'll love his smile!" Satori gets into position in front of me.

I bet I will.

"Left!" I shout and Shizuku quickly sets me the ball as I hit above the two person block.

"Osu!" Our side cheers and Satori congratulates me with a double high five and a "nice kill".

In this match it's me, Shizuku, Yui, Satori and Goshiki against Sakura, Miya, Misaki, Shirabu, Yamagata, and Kawanishi. The points are currently 13-14 with us being one point behind.
