Zak's pov
A yawn escaped my lips as the morning sun creeped through the jail windows covered in bars. I look out at the desolate mountains surrounding us, even they look more welcoming than my featureless walls. a6d was still asleep, and I decided it would be rude to wake him since it still looked super early. I look around for a guard to tell me what time it was, but there seemed to be none around. Wait... there were none around! This would be the perfect time to escape! "urh" I grumble when I realise only Darryl the warden has the keys for the cells. They also had a no hair clip and metal stuff policy, so picking the lock isn't really an option either.
I sigh in defeat, loud enough to wake up a6d.
"What are you doing up so earlyyyyy?" a6d questioned, dragging out the question like a little kid.
"Nothing, just couldn't sleep any longer" I answered him. "Hey, did you notice there are no guards around?"
"Huh? Really?" he asked, instantly awoken. He rushed to the door scanning the area. "Lets go then!"
"How in the world are we supposed to do that?" a6d has a way to escape the prison? I can't say I'm surprised, this guy always has a way to do something.
"Simple, we use this lock pick in my pocket right... hereeeeeeeeeee- oh" he said excitedly at first, but by the end of the sentence he had a frown on his face. "Sorry, wrong prison, I forgot this one took all my stuff off me."
"Ha, and you're the one that told me I had spent 5 years here! Looks like you've only been here for a day!" I laughed.
"Very funny, laugh it up. It's just that this is the first prison I've been to that has a no metal policy. Super strict aren't they?" a6d explained, looking mildly annoyed at his own stupidity. And apparently he has been to other prisons too... I just don't know. At least he's not bad to me.
"No problem, It's whatever" I tell him. If we escape, we will be escaping from Darryl anyway, and seeing as his job involves complete control, he'd probably get fired. Even if it meant my freedom, I don't want that. But I've been here for five years, and I didn't do anything wrong... I deserve freedom. Even if the guy gets fired, at least five years of his life haven't gone down the drain. My head debates with its self a few minutes more, till I come to the conclusion I can escape, and hopefully Darryl is hardworking enough that nobody would fire him.
"Yo Zak?" says a6d, but what concerns me is the hint of cheekiness in his french accented voice.
"Yes?" I reply, sceptical of what he has to say.
"Iv'e got a plan to escape"
a6d explains the plan to me, which is actually pretty simple. Basically, me and a6d aggravate the aggressive prisoners, causing a fight to break out. Since a6d is good with words, he'll come up with what to say. From what I understood he'll tell spread lies about a few prisoners bad-mouthing each other, bring it up at breakfast and boom! We got ourselves a fight! Now, we depend on this fight escalating, so Darryl will have to come running. Once the prisoners know the warden is coming, we tell them I'll take the blame, for no catch. Obviously they'll accept this deal. When Darryl arrives, he'll take me into what is know as "The interview room" and question me about the fight. I've seen his keys in his coat pocket, so I'll tell him its hot in here, to physiologically make him think its hot, and take his coat off. Then, half way through the questions, I'll pretend to pass out, hopefully sending him running for the nurses. It's crucial he leaves his coat in the room, as whilst he's gone, I'll probably have a minute or two to snag the keys and pretend to have woken up and be fine. After the interview is over, I go back to my cell with a6d, stay up, and when we see no guards, we run. (Who else imagined an epic movie scene showing how the plan is going to go Xd)
Still, this plan has a lot of places it really depends on certain things happening, such as we need the fight to get bad, Darryl needs to be free at the time of the fight, and my physiological trick has to work, or none of this will go to plan. I'll admit, the plan has it's flaws, but it's the best one we have, so we might as well stick with it.
"You've really out done yourself a6d!" I praise him. Actually, should I be praising him for a good plan to escape from prison? Probably not, but I do it nonetheless.
"Any day, how do you think I ended up being max security here!? It's not because I did anything really bad, just cuz I kept escaping the prisons."
So he didn't do anything terrible, like I expected. We talk the plan over a bit more, making sure we know how everything will play out, from the big picture to the tiniest details. It feels so much like a video game, that I have to constantly keep reminding myself this is real life. We had decided to finish planning for the night, and on cue, one of the guards came round banging the bars shouting "Lights out boys!"
a6d and I slowly get in out beds, separated by a sink attached to the wall and a small table with a lamp. I reach across and turn the lamp off, ready to sleep.
"So you know exactly what you're going to say tomorrow, right?" I asked.
"Yup, don't worry about it" a6d confirms.
"And... do you think Darryl will loose his job?" I nervously question, hoping to get some kind of reassurance.
"I don't know, maybe, but we'll be out! That's all that matters" He tells me.
"No but-" I start off, but I get interrupted by
"You're not thinking of bailing on the plan just for a nice warden, are you Zak?" Said a6d blankly. The way the words sounded terrified me, this guy can be scary as hell when he wants to be, and you don't want to be on his bad side.
"N- no, of course not, just wondering," I whisper in fear.
"Ahh, good! Night" He says, back to his normal self.
"Night" I say, still getting shivers down my spine at how quick a6d can change his tone. No matter. Tomorrow is a big day, I better get some sleep.
