In that moment, his future looked bleak.
The night got colder and the air bit into his skin. A strong reminder of where he was supposed to be by that time. His fingers knotting and unknotting, made popping sounds. His barely covered feet tingled in response. Uncertainty and dread mixed in him. But the main settler present...was fear.
His head was spinning. Different bizarre thoughts flitted in and out. Thoughts that almost made him gag. That, and the alley's smell was getting too much for him.
He turned fearful eyes back to the entity...person. "Please leave me alone." He felt his boldness seeping out of him.
The man looked absolutely delighted. A huge bucket of amusement loaded in his expression. Though that seemed to only heighten his dread. "Oh that's kinda rude."
"I don't fucking care if I'm rude." He started weakly. If he didn't leave now,he was going to piss himself. "Just leave me alone."
Finally,the man's merry expression morphed into a frown. "I'm not holding you,am I?"
He broke into a run. The wind wiped at his face and his eyes welled up. But he had one agenda in his head now. His comfy straw mat.
Cos' all he had to do was mind his business.
And he wouldn't be in this shit right now.
He rounded a corner. And ran as fast as he could. His arms and legs were flying all direction. He knew if anyone saw him right now, they'd peg him for a madman. He didn't blame them. Won't blame them. Because he'd be lying if he said he didn't half expect the man to chase after him.
Chika's head raises different warning sirens as he heard the man's booming laughter and heavy steps from behind him. Willing his legs to move faster,Panic seized him and he screamed the first word that came to mind.
"Rape. Rape." The man's laughter,if possible,grew louder.
Jesus Christ.
Rape?
"Somebody help!" He sounded like a child. "I'm being chased by a madman."
He turned left into a street. Turned right. Hopped over a log. Screamed bloody murder when he felt thorns pick at his feet. Adrenaline kicked him further when he felt the man reaching him. His head pounded painfully. The thought of being killed and butchered hit him. And he ran faster. The wind nearly knocked out of him when he heard his ribs pop.
Jesus Christ.
He hadn't ran this fast. Not even when he and Justin were caught vandalizing school property.
After minutes of running,he came to a stop. His body though, was still posed on alert. He scanned his environment.
It was a clearing that looked like a dead end. Looked left and right. Bushes. Looked ahead of him. More bushes. The only tree in the clearing stood proud and tall in the middle. His knees finally gave way to surrender. He panted, cursing under his breath. His eyes stung from sweat rolling from his forehead. He wiped his clammy palms on the trimmed carpet grass, then wiped his face with his shirt.
Right after his racing heart and throbbing head calmed down,he listened intently for any noise around him. Crickets and
Crickets.
He breathed a huge breath of relief when he came to the conclusion he had lost the man. And scowled when he realized he was lost himself.
Then he heard the footsteps. The light footsteps. Panic creeped in him and he swallowed desperately. His eyes darted to and fro as he circled round his spot
His shoulders soon slumped down when there was nothing else to affirm his alarm and his anger soon gave way to depression. He trudged to the foot of the tree and sat down. The weight on his shoulders going down with his weight.
He looked to the sky. Not so pitch black anymore. The stars shone brightly giving the sky a warm hue that reflected on the clearing. The fireflies dancing around added to the scenery before him and he smiled despite himself.
The smile was wiped off immediately the thought of the alley man came to him. He shivered involuntarily as he reminisced his near-death experience.
He had gotten himself into all sorts juvenile trouble. But,Jesus Christ, paranormals?
No,no,no,no,no,no.
He shook his head and stopped when it started to hurt.
Levitating?
Holding a dead rat?
"Funny human?"
This was too much. Even for him. Chika wasn't superstitious in any way but right there and then, he could have given up somebody's ghost.
He attempted to get up but soon fell back when his legs wobbled.
Maybe,it was all a trick. Maybe his brain was fucking with him. Probably his stress had caught up with him. And in the nearest future when he remembers this night,he'd laugh it off.
Cause all he had to was mind his business.
The noise came again. Fear seized him when he heard sounds of bush rustling by his side. His taut muscles rippled on alert. He scoffed loudly when a rabbit jumped out to pick on its food and jumped back in.
He exhaled and relaxed by the tree.
He wondered what time it was.
He should be home by now. But then again, this wasn't the first time he'd been out this late. Maybe he'd just lie here by the tree.
No sooner had the thought come, did he start snoring. But few minutes later, noises roused him from his sleep.
Groggy eyes looked up to mischievous amethyst eyes.
That did it.
