"Tower to Silver, raid teams are in position. Final recon and prep are complete," I heard Artie say through my earpiece.
"Copy," I replied.
I checked my shoulder brace, ensuring the banding was tight enough to avoid further damage but still not hinder my mobility. I stretched my legs, shaking out the coldness that had settled.
"Silver to Tower. Moving," I said into my radio as I started advancing. "Raid teams, wait for my go to storm."
"Copy," the team leaders replied on unison.
"I'm telling ya," Trev whined beside me, offering me a pack of gum. "The Boss is gonna hang me if he finds out I let you do this."
I rolled my eyes, waving away the gum. He offered it to Simone and she took two, tossing them in her mouth and smacking loudly.
"You know, you used to be loyal to me," I muttered dryly.
Trev snickered, stepping over a large rock. "He's less high maintenance than you ever were."
I kicked dirt at him. "I'm a better fuck than he'll ever be."
"Now that's not fair," he fired back. "I'm not into gents so I can't compare you two and even if I was, he's pretty much the poster child for monogamy."
"Can't really blame him. Have you seen his wife lately? Those tits?" I clicked my tongue against my teeth. "I didn't get why he was so batshit for her before but now, I kinda do. If I wasn't in a committed relationship, I'd fuck the shit out of her."
"Oh, is Blue Eyes not perfect after all?" he teased and I shoved him in response while he just laughed. "I'm curious," he went on. "Is he a better shag than me?"
I scoffed. "Infinitely better."
He gasped, feigning hurt. "Does he do that thing that makes you go all French?"
I smirked. "No, but he still manages with just his mouth."
He nodded in appreciation. "I'll concede to that."
"There was never a competition," I quipped, winking.
"Woman, please, you used to cream all over my cock," he retorted with a wave of his hand.
"Faked most it, FYI," I said, shrugging.
He gasped again. "You traitorous bítch."
"Hey," Simone hissed at us. "Shut up. We're close."
We shifted, drawing our focus to the front. I kept my footing light as we closed in on the imposing mansion set just over the side of the lake. According to Reinhardt's intel, the estimate for combatants would be no more than fifty but before we could even get to those guys, we had to get over the tall walls wrapped around the mansion's perimeter. It had been a difficult deliberation, whether to bite into the clear trap and storm through the lake, or tear through the wall and clear a path. Infiltration was the only sure way to avoid unnecessary deaths on our side and secure the property before the raid was initiated.
"Ash," I called into my radio. "Give me their eyes."
"Wait, still taking," I heard him mumble. "Still taking. Just a bit more. Aaaaaand... given."
"Go," I ordered.
Trev and I broke into a sprint, taking off in opposite directions while Simone remained to cover the front. Aran, who had been shadowing me, went ahead and was waiting at the far East side of the property when I reached him. When he caught sight of me, he made for the wall. He tossed up the grappling hook over the wall, sending the rope with it. It wrapped around the light post on the edge of the wall and he pulled, securing it. I held out my hand for the rope as I neared and, without pause, I ran up the wall, using my momentum to give me an extra lift as I quickly pulled myself up.
