Wir Eis hurried towards Silv's still form, but before he could reach her, she suddenly jumped up. What Wir Eis saw when he looked into her eyes was able to startle even him, an alien who has been through so much.
"Silv, okay?" Wir Eis asked, unsure of what the best course of action was.
Silv's eyes that were in that moment completely green, seemed focused on an internal struggle rather than on Wir Eis's approaching figure. The white of Silv's eyes was the same shade of green as the liquid through which she was trying to connect with the ship. As far as Wir Eis could remember, that had never happened before.
"I am fine," Silv said through gritted teeth.
"Silv not look okay." Wir Eis said, moving to extract her hands from the ship controls.
"No! Don't! She is just checking." Silv managed to say as shivers ran through her body that didn't look friendly in the slightest to Wir Eis.
Still, he decided to do as his human friend bid him since it seemed as if she knew what she was doing. Yet, that couldn't stop him from worrying about the tiny human as her body seemed to hum with Evanescence's presence.
He feared that she would overestimate the human strength and break Silv since he knew Evanescence would never harm another being on purpose. Except, of course, if she was fighting for survival.
Wir Eis couldn't help but wonder if that was what Evanescence thought was going on, if his human friend was mistaken in her estimates.
Not only were Silv's eyes green, but even her bluish veins were becoming green as if Evanescence was as much part of who Silv was as Silv herself.
Finally, after another small shriek of pain, Silv was released from the ship's clutches, and she tiredly sank to the floor.
Though she appeared as if she had been through a battle, a smile adorned her face.
"What happen?" Wir Eis asked.
"Nothing much, she just wanted to check if we meant her harm," Silv said.
"It hurt." Wir Eis stated the facts.
"Yes, but that's my fault. I didn't expect her to go so deep into my mind and so suddenly. If I had been better prepared, it wouldn't have looked so dramatic. I am sorry for scaring you." Silv said, smiling warmly at her friend.
"Wir Eis not scare. Wir Eis never scare." Wir Eis said, looking at the ground.
Tired as she was, Silv still couldn't help but chuckle at his statement.
"What?" Wir Eis asked, confused.
"I guess males of all species have at least something in common," Silv said.
Before Wir Eis could investigate the meaning of her words, whether it was a compliment or an insult, a low buzzing filled their ears.
"What's that?" Silv asked.
"Communications repaired." Wir Eis said.
"Don't you use those implanted telepathic communicators you told me about?" Silv asked.
"Not always work. Family easy. Outside family not work perfect." Wir Eis said.
"You mean they are connected with your genetics? It's easier for family members to use them to communicate with each other than it is to communicate with the other members of your species?" Silv asked to make sure she understood correctly since his limited knowledge of the human language sometimes made it hard to follow.
"Yes," Wir Eis said.
Moments later, an image of Rose and the others came to life in front of them, and Silv was impressed since she couldn't determine which technology was involved in its production.
"Evanescence control communications now." Wir Eis said as a way of explanation.
"All good?" Rose asked.
"Yes, Evanescence will not cause further problems. She understands that we are here to help." Silv said.
"That is a relief, mistress. My lady has been rather vexed with having to work under the given circumstances." Arthur said.
"Well, it wasn't easy to fix even this communication system when everything was constantly moving. Anyway, if you two are done back there, join us here. We need all the help we can get. The hangar doors won't hold for much longer. The flying capability has to be repaired as soon as possible or we'll be in a lot of trouble." Rose said.
"Will be right there," Silv said as the image of her grandmother disappeared as if it was never there in the first place.
"Protocol Spacial Displacement activated," Evanescence said.
Moments later, Wir Eis and Silv found themselves in the engine room behind Rose, Arthur, and Justin, who were hard at work.
"I love it when she does that," Silv said, exhilarated.
It was as if her connection with Evanescence was further strengthened by the ship's prying into Silv's mind. Thus, she could pick up more easily what Silv needed the most. Silv was yet again touched that the spaceship would give her that with no questions asked.
"Hey! How did you get here? I could've sworn you weren't there moments ago." Justin said, jumping in shock, almost hitting his head on one of the engines.
"Let's just say that Evanescence has a few tricks you will find really cool," Silv said.
"Wow. That's awesome. I can't wait to see all of them." Justin said, thrilled at the prospect.
"Can we focus on not being caught and probably killed by the Government soldiers first?" Rose said doing her best to refocus the children's attention on their priorities.
"Where sister?" Wir Eis asked.
"She is trying to move the heavy part that seemed to have come off in the adjoining room. I think she might need your help though she said she could handle it on her own." Rose said.
"Wir Eis go help." Wir Eis said, leaving.
"How can I help? You know that this is not really something I am good at." Silv said to Rose.
"I know, but you can help Justin in adjusting those moving parts. It's a two men job, and I have to focus on reconnecting the engines with the power source, which I still don't fully understand. Just do what he tells you, and everything will be okay." Rose said.
"Alright," Silv said.
It vexed her that she would have to do as Justin said since she still hadn't gotten over how easily he took control of her people, her pack. However, for the sake of Evanescence and everyone else on the ship, Silv let go of her resentment, putting her pride aside.
From that moment, all that could be heard was the humming and buzzing of different devices as they all did their best to finish the necessary repairs. Knowing that their lives depended on it made them very diligent workers, but they weren't sure if that would be enough.
