*Bellas POV*
I wake up to the sound of Lord Ashers voice. "I don't care, send both birds. We need help from the borders or we're going to die."His voice is strict. My eyes are open but it's still dark. I cough loudly. "Leave us." My lungs burn and I feel sick to my stomach. I hear steps and a door closing. "Bella?"
My vision at lowly starts coming back to me. Confused about where I am I try to sit up. We're in a room? There are only a few lights showing me my surroundings. It's wem a to be dark outside.
"Here drink something." The first thing I can really make out is Zayden handing my a water chalice.
I gladly oblige. "What happened?" I finally speak as my memories were those of me trying to stand.
"The Lyrian army attacked us. They knew where we were." I'm laying on a big bed in a room that seems far more fancy than anything I'd ever seen before. Lord Asher sits at the edge of my bed. I look around and try to figure out where we could be. I can't recognize anything due to the darkness of the night.
"Bella," Zaydens eyes turn dark, "did you have anything to do with the attack?" He looks at my reaction carefully as anger erupts.
"How the heck could I have anything to do with it?!" I hiss.
"Listen,-"
"No you listen! When should I have been able to get news about the camp out? In between getting tied, or chained up?! Or maybe I sent word out as your men molested me??" I spit.
His lips turn into a long line as he narrows his eyes on my in anger. "I told you I'm sorry! I didn't know that you were, supposed to be mine." He says the last part quietly.
Tears of anger fill my eyes as I choke while speaking. "I'm the enemy, remember?" I mimic Jonathan's voice.
"Yes you were, but now your not anymore. I'm sorry I got you mixed up in all of this but when we go back to Walzenor, I promise you-"
"What?" I exhale while I speak. Like hell im going to Walzenor.
"I'm not going anywhere with you!"Zayden groans and rubs his temples.
Wait so we're still in Lyria?
My eyes widen. Where the fuck are we?I toss the covers off myself and run to the window. "Bella," Zayden growls.
"Where are we?" I can't see anything except for a few lit up houses. I turn to Zayden but he doesn't answer me.
So I continue to look out the window. The church bells ring and my heart seems to stand still. That's Capers church bell. I frantically try to concentrate or to recognize anything when my eyes start to adjust. I could also be a coincidence. But that's when I see it and all my hope came crashing down. The small well of Caper, and the big maple tree that grows next to it.
"We're in Caper?!?"
We're in Capers Landlords house.
Zayden opens his mouth to say something but stops.
"Yes, but only shortly."
"Where are the villagers?" I ask frantically. I can't believe they seized Caper.
"They're fine."
"Why did it have to Caper?!" The situation is still sinking in slowly.
"Bella, we needed supplies."
"So you've come here to plunder innocent people? They didn't do anything wrong. These are simple people, with simple dreams. They have nothing to do with the war!"
"I know that, but I'd we don't armor up here we'll all die under the second attack. It's only for a few days."
"Did anyone get hurt?"
He averts my gaze. "Zayden, Tell me." I ask freak out. Am I at fault for his coming here or was it a coincidence? If anything would have happened to these people I would never forgive myself.
"Not really."
"What do you mean 'not really'?"
I ball my hands into a fist as rage erupts. "Some of the villagers tried to fight us off, and we had to restrain them."
"Did your people kill anyone?"
"No. I swear it."
Zayden is still seated on the bed and I can barely believe what's going. Someone please wake me up from this nightmare.
"Let me see my family." I cross my arms.
He looks me dead in the eye and says "no".
"What? Why? I won't run I just want to see if they're okay."
"They're fine."
I grit my teeth. "Just let me see them shortly. You don't even know who they are." I argue.
Zayden gets up from his seat and walks over to me. My face is almost touching his as he speaks.
"The answer is no, Bella. End of discussion."Fuck him. I'll find them myself.
"You pretend to care for me because I'm your bonded, but you don't. This isn't how you treat them." I spit angrily, as a big tear starts rolling down my face. I wipe it away quickly.
I just want to be alone.
"Whatever." He says angrily and heads outside.
I don't want this. Any of it. I just want to go back to my family.
Hours later Zayden has come back, not said a word and fallen asleep in an armchair.
The entire time I pretended to be sleeping in the big bed. After I was sure he was asleep I head towards the window. It was quite a few feet up but I'm more than sure by the sounds that I'd heard coming from outside the doors that someone is standing guard outside in the hall. Typical of Zayden.
I open the window and look down. This will burn my foot soles so bad. As quietly as I can I hang myself on the other side of the window and let myself drop to the ground.
I land on my feet hard but catch myself with my legs. I limp it off, I need to go see my family, no matter the consequences.
