First day

I woke up the same way I always do, my mom screaming at me to get out of bed, my dad reminding me to eat breakfast "it's the most important meal of the day" and my brothers fighting over who should get the last eggo
waffle.

Today is the first day of senior year and to be honest I'm not excited. I haven't had the best summer. I was happy to to meet up with my friends again. I isolated myself during the summer and I'm going to try to not do that this school year. Florence is probably going to give me a weird motivational speech the second I walk through those doors. Florence is quite possibly the best human being on this planet. Out of the 7 billion people on earth, I think that she is the most beautiful and the funniest person alive. Although she makes terrible decisions.

...

As I make my way into the school, every single memory suddenly came back to me. I felt my gut cave in. "It's been three months, why aren't I over him already?"

"Hey girl!"

It's Florence, she's giving me the speech I was expecting. The whole you don't need a man routine. I'm not in the mood so I'm just ignoring what she's saying.

"Wow you're chatty this morning."

"I'm sorry it's just that I'm having flash backs"

"Come on Catherine it's been 3 months since
you and Rowley broke up"

"Yeah I know but it's really hard"

"We should find you a rebound! You deserve it queen!"

I get that she's trying to help but a rebound is the last thing that I need right now

"Have you heard about the new kid? I heard he's super hot."

I don't really feel like responding so I just make my way to the cafeteria. We walk in silence for a little while but I could feel that she had more to say.

"Rodrick's throwing a party tonight and we're going"

"Oh come on Flo! You know I'm not up for that besides we all know you're just going to make out with Greg all night"

Flo and Greg had been dating on and off since sec 2. Every couple of months they get back together but it always ends in a nasty breakup. We're talking putting stuff on fire type of breakup.

"So what if I do? You're just jealous I get more action than you"

I fake a smile as we find the rest of the group at the cafeteria, we sit down. The girls start talking about their summer romances. I don't care much for the subject and drift off in my head.

I longed for first period, It seemed like all of my friends lived these incredible romance novel type of summer love while I was at home having a Harry Potter marathon and obsessing over Draco Malfoy. I couldn't wait to get away from that conversation.
