Chapter 8: End X The Fifth phase

Me and Pokkle arrive at the starting point so I scan the crowd for Gon and his gang. They look pretty roughed up. Hisoka and Glitter-tack are at the front of the crowd. I accidentally catch Hisoka's eye and he winks at me before he turns his attention back on Netero. I secretly give him the middle finger which causes Pokkle to gasp.

"I didn't know you were such a prude," I tease Pokkle.

"And I did not know you were such a thrill-seeker! Why would you give the killer clown the middle finger."

I snort, and in a nasal voice, I say," Actually, he is a magician.

"Who cares about that, plus Killer Clown is a nickname that has been circulating the other applicants because it is so catchy," he hisses.

I roll my eyes and say," He is only attracted to people who he sees as promising opponents, so he won't bother you if you don't catch his eye."

Pokkle nervously gulps.

"Chill man, If you have managed to make it to the final Phase then you must have some talent," I say cheerily.

Unfortunately, Pokkle does not share the same positive sentiments as me.

While I am walking around the Airship I bump into Killua and Gon.

"Hello boys, what are you guys doing?" I ask.

I can see Killua bristle at my presence like a cat, but Gon's eyes seem to brighten like a golden retriever.

Gon says," Hello! I am glad you made it to the fifth phase."

"I am glad to see you too, and I am sorry I ran away from you at the start of the Hunter's exam," I say sheepishly.

Killua is glaring at me, which is pretty adorable because it reminds me of his elder brother's glare.

I askKillua," What is your name?

Without missing a beat, Killua confidently says," I'm Killua Zoldyck."

It is obvious that Killua is fishing for a reaction from me based on his last name, but I will not give him one.

"Nice to meet you too, Killua! Please be careful because your family has many enemies, while you may be powerful for your age. That does not beat the years of experience that others have over you," I warn.

Gon and Killua huddle closer to each other and Gon shouts," Nobody threatens one of my friends!"

I let out a hearty laugh and said," I am simply warning Killua to watch his back, but I am not one to be wary of."

Killua relaxes a little, and the anger bleeds out of Gon's eyes immediately. "Toodles, boys, and I hope that the both of you pass the exam," I say before floating away.

I enter the room and sit down in front of Netero.

"Why do you want to be a hunter?" he asks.

"I want to enjoy the perks of being a hunter, like access to vast amount of knowledge," I say. "I also want to make my sensei proud...even though she ditched me."

Neter slowly nods and asks," Which candidates interest you?"

"Gon and Glitter-tack," I respond.

"Whom would you want to fight the least," Netero says.

"That would be Glitter-tack & Hisoka because they seemed highly trained in combat and I would rather make it out here in one piece," I state.

After the interview, Netero hands me a piece of paper and whispers," Only open this after the exam." "Otherwise, you'll only spoil the surprise."

I roll my eyes and say," I'll give Bisky your regards if I ever see her."

Neter happily nods before shooing me out of the room.

As I leave his office, I slip the paper into my pocket, which catches Kurapika's attention.

I flash him a friendly smile, but he just stares at me.

Netero reveals the matches, and I am up against Bladie Ninja, which should be manageable.

I get into my fighting stance, but Hanzo says," Although your shadow may have deemed you worthy enough to fight me, I will not because I don't fight women."

Leorio lets out a gasp from the sidelines.

"Oh, come on man! You are such a party pooper!" I exclaim.

I hear a snicker from someone, and I whip around to see Pokkle.

"Shut up Pokkle," I hiss angrily.

"I surrender," Hanzo declares loudly before stepping away.

"Asshole," I angrily mutter before I stomp away.

"It has been a while Kil," Glitter-tack says monotonously as he slowly approaches Killua.

Killua is slowly backing away and the aura in the room becomes heavier and denser.

Illumi eventually removes all the pins from his face. His silky black hair drapes across his shoulder, and his gaze becomes less piercing but more consuming. It is like staring at two black hole-sized eyes. Killua eventually stops moving backwards, and now he is just frozen on the spot.

"I heard that you stabbed Milluki and Mum," Illumi remarks casually.

"That's about right," Kilua snaps back.

"Mum was in tears."

"As if anyone could blame her. Geez Killua!" Leorio comments. "What a rotten kid."

I roll my eyes because Killua eventually grows on Killua later on.

"She was crying tears of joy because she couldn't believe how much better you got."

Gotta give it to Illumi. At least he has a knack for comedic-timing or maybe he picked that up from me.

Leorio faints beside me. I guess this was too much for his old soul.

Illumi advances even further because the phrase," Fucking boundaries" seems to not be in his vocabulary. Poor Killua looks like a cornered cat. I wish I could do something to help me, but it unfortunately has to be this way.

Illumi mentions that their mother was concerned for Killua's safety and wanted him to check up on Killua. He also mentions that he did not expect Killua to be at the Hunter's exam. Killua lies to Illumi and pretends to not be interested in becoming a hunter, but I know Killua is sick of his family's business and wants a career change.

"That is good because you are not fit to be a hunter," Illumi coldly says.
