A soldiers wish

I wish I could see the stars

The smoke in the sky blocks them though

I carve for their twinkle

There sparkle in the sky

To save me from this place I am at

I can hear my comrades crying

Feel the pain in my side

Hear the guns roaring

See the flashes of light

I wish I could see the stars

So that they can save me from this place

Take me away from this nightmare

As I lay on the ground

I hear the pounding of footsteps

The cry of wounded men

The beat of my own heart

And the echoing of guns

I feel my breathing slowing

Coming to a stop

And all I wish

With my finale breath

Is that I could see the stars
