Twilight A Different Kind of Remorse

The Letter

Glass shattered as Alice dropped the flower vase she was holding, a few seconds after Bella rushed in holding a letter. "The Volturi is coming for us, well except Esto he's not a Cullen, but the rest of us...."

"What do you mean why?" I asked her and Alice walked over clutching Bella. 

"They said we helped Edward in committing murderous crimes and we've all been sentenced to death for not being careful." She said and then shook her head.

"When Edward disappeared for a while he hunted some humans, clearly he wasn't careful about it." Alice stated and I shook my head. 

"I'll talk to them, I know you had nothing to do with it. Hopefully Alec can help after all he is my mate. Kristina would you like to accompany me?" I asked her and she nodded since the Volturi wasn't after her. 

With that we headed back to Volterra to prove the innocence of the Cullens.

When we arrived Aro stood from his throne looking displeased that I would show here. "Esto, as much as I do care for you. You can not associate with the Cullens and then run back here."

"Aro they are innocent, they had nothing to do with what Edward did!" I shouted at him and Kristina stood behind me looking worried. No one stood against Aro unless they had a death wish. I happened to not mind taking my chances Alec would protect me. 

As if on cue he emerged after hearing me yell and came to stand by me. "Aro if Esto says they are innocent maybe we shou-"

Aro put up his hand silencing him, "I will gain every facet of the truth before I take just one person's word for it, even if he is your mate." 

Before I could say anything further Alec rushed us out of the room. We found Jane staring at a mirror in the hall looking angry. "Alec maybe you should convince Jane to help..." I trailed off and he sighed. 

"I'll try, she's fragile now after all they want to kill Jasper, and he is her mate." He stated and I looked at Jane curiously. 

"Why is she staring so deeply at the mirror?" I asked but she snapped her head up and responded to me herself. 

"It allows you to see any person of your choice, but you can only choose one person per lifetime. It's the first time I've ever used it." She said quietly, "I've never had a reason before but now..." She trailed off and I quickly spoke up. 

"Jane the Cullens are innocent, maybe you could help us convince Aro that they are, and-" She turned towards me quickly throwing her hand up, anger visible throughout her face. 

"I just found my mate after centuries, and now I'm about to loose him. I do not want to help you, nor get involved! I just want to be left alone!" She stormed away and I looked at Alec with a sigh. 

"I don't think your sister likes me very much..." I said and He hugged me tightly. 

"She'll warm up to you, not everyone can see how amazing you are like I can." He said and I chuckled. "Now come on, I think we have a long overdue discussion to have. In our bed, under the sheets, with nothing on." He smirked seductively and I blushed. 

"I'll catch up with you later Esto." Kristina said and headed down the hall and Alec and I went the other way towards our bedroom. 

It had been a long time since I had been in here. Ever since I went back to Forks it had one thing after the other and I missed Alec. I wanted to feel him wrapped in my arms again with nothing but skin. 

Of course he wasted no time in giving me just what he knew I wanted.

Kristina entered Jane's room and the tension was clearly there, "Jane..." She said and Jane turned towards her. 

"I was wondering when you would come to talk to me." She said bitterly and Kristina sighed. 

"I'm sorry Jane, you know I didn't want to leave but Aro wouldn't let me stay if I didn't join. You know I was against it as much as I love you." She said and Jane turned at her in fury. 

"Love me! You are supposed to be my sister Kristina! Gifted with powers beyond what any vampire as ever seen! You were given the chance of a lifetime! Aro wanted you, Alec, and I to become to the next leaders of the Volturi! But you left me and ran away!" Jane screamed at her and Kristina sighed.

"Jane, I don't want to be a member of the Volturi, let alone lead it! How could you let Aro and them wrap you in their grasp so tightly? They don't have your best interests, they are just using you for your power." Kristina responded gently and shook her head as Jane glared at her. 

"What proof do you have that, that is true? Hmm? What proof?" Jane challenged her and Kristina sighed. 

She could talk to the dead and she could speak to the previous people who had been members or part of Aro's life. The hardest part of having such a power is no one believed you when you told them what the dead said. Not even Jane would believe her if she tried to use it as evidence so she went a different route.

"Why don't you talk to Jasper, remember when he use to answer to Maria? Maria used to consort with Aro she knows things, of course I know you won't believe me if I told you what her dead self said. But maybe you'll believe Jasper, go talk to him please give me a chance I can prove I'm right. Even if Aro won't listen to you if I'm right Caius will, please Jane." Kristina said and Jane sighed and turned away from her again. 

"We will see, now leave I don't want to see you right now." With that Kristina knew she did all that she could and left Jane to her thoughts.
