I was walking home from school, alone, with my earphones in. I was listening to The Greatest Showman playlist. I've recently become obsessed with it. Again. That and Olivia Rodrigo. She's amazing! Anyway, I was walking peacefully when I heard my phone ringing.
"Hey Momma C!" I answered "What's up?"
"Nini, come home now" I heard her crying.
"What's wrong?" I worried.
"Just come home as soon as possible" she hung up the phone. Ok. I've got to run. What is wrong? I hope it's nothing too serious.
"Momma C? Momma D? What's wrong?" I ran into the house only to see Momma C.
"Honey, sit down" she patted the seat beside her as she wiped her tears. I sat down, worried "Momma D and Lola were in a car accident"
I sat there in shock. Please no. Please no. Please no. I will do anything for them to still be alive.
"Did they make it?" I mustered out.
"No" mom whispered.
I didn't do anything. I just felt a warm tear fall down my left cheek and started sobbing. Momma C and I sobbed for around an hour before I got up and moved up into my room to grieve for my family members alone. I decided to call one of my friends. I went onto my favourites.

I sat looking at the device. I cried again at seeing Momma D and Lola on there. I decided to call Kourtney. She didn't pick up though. Does anyone else find that no one picks up their phone when you need them the most? Yeah. Me too. Off topic! Anyway, so then I called Ricky because my brain was a mess and I wasn't thinking straight so thought that calling my ex boyfriend was a good idea.

"Hey Nini! You haven't rang me in ages but I know that this was your favourite space for facetime and-" he answered the phone with a smile. That smile quickly dropped off his face when he saw me "What's wrong?"
"Momma D and Lola died" I told him. The first words I've said since I found out. He looked at me in shock. I nodded slowly, sniffling. Then he hung up the phone. What? Why'd he do that? Rude!
I lay down in bed and cried some more. I wanted to ring someone and have them comfort me but only five people in the world could do that successfully. Two of them are dead. One doesn't 100% know how to do it and Momma C is going through enough. Her wife and mother-in-law just died. The other person hung up on me. Anyone else would just apologize and move on. But he is the only one who can comfort me properly. I don't know how long I was lying there but the next thing I heard was Momma C answering the door and someone coming upstairs and into my room.
"Nini, I'm so sorry" Ricky came over and hugged me.
"Ricky?" I looked at him confused.
"Yeah! I wasn't gonna leave you alone when you're going through such a hard time!" He smiled at me "I know everything's a bit... Awkward between us but we're friends, right? And we help eachother through tough times. Like Troy and Gabriella would!"
"Yeah... We're friends" I returned the smile.
"I brought a mixed flavour slushie, a hsm dvd to watch and two full bags of popcorn" he handed me the foods as he put the movie in the dvd player.
"Thanks" I moved over as he lay down beside me and turned the movie on. I handed him one of the bags of popcorn.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"Uhh... Giving you your popcorn bag? What do you think?" I laughed.
"That's yours" he told me.
"Fine. You can have this one. I didn't think it mattered they're both the same" I gave him the other bag.
"No. They're both yours" he informed me.
"That's not fair"
"Nor is life or losing your mom and Lola in the same day" he smiled "Come on. I know what makes you feel better"
He stood up and got the microphones. We sang along to 'The start of something new' and danced a bit. When it finished we laughed and lay back down.
"That did make me feel better. A lot better actually! Thanks" I smiled at the boy beside me.
"No problem! I know you so well that I know you so well!" He laughed, not really sure what he was talking about.
"What-"
"Don't ask" he shook his head "You're a better singer than Gabriella, you know that right?" He changed the subject.
"You're just saying that! No one is a better singer than Vanessa Hudgens!" I laughed at him.
"Apart from you! You're so good!"
"Thanks but now they're going to East High so we've got to find our lockers so shut up!" I told him.
"Ok..." He smiled.
We were watching the movie but he wouldn't stop looking at me.
"What?" I laughed at him.
"Nothing, nothing" he looked away.
"Ok. Whatever" I ignored it.
Not too long after that he was looking at me again! I decided to just pretend that I didn't notice this time.
"I can't imagine me walking through a forest of boys while singing this!" I laughed when 'When there was me and you' came on.
"I love you" Ricky whispered.
"What?" I turned to look at him in shock.
"I love you, Nini. I'm so sorry that I didn't say it before but I'm saying it now so that has to be worth something, right?" He smiled, hopefully.
"Yeah. Yeah it does" I kissed him. This may have been the worst day of my life but... Well... It still was but at least it wasn't 100% awful. At least there was one good part. Rini back together. Forever.
