She existed only in his mind,

He caught her in a fleeting moment and she kept going.

Growing and forming into a person.

She is beautiful as a ruby,

And imperfect as any stone before it is cut.

He became obsessed with this idea,

With this perfect girl,

The girl with red hair and pink lips,

Legs to short but he liked them anyways,

This girl who lived in his mind.

But things went wrong,

She became a person.

They grew apart,

Personalities clashed,

Words cut.

His mind created her,

His mind changed her.

His mind made her,

His mind destroyed her.

Not all at once.

With the changes.

He wrote her,

He changed her.

Each new emotion,

A new crack.

She was sad he said be happy,

She was mad he said to love him,

She was leaving he said to stay.

She became a different person,

Confused and hurt by the sudden changes.

She had lost who she was,

He had changed who she was.

He let her go,

She is free.

He wrote "Ruby is ruby again,"

He wrote "Unchanged and original,"

And she was.

She was back to the self who grew apart.

The girl who was sad,

The girl who was mad,

The girl who was leaving.

And he was broken,

She packed and left,

He had fallen in love.

Now she was gone,

Dissolved in the space between,

Alive,

And never there.

He wrote about her,

Like he did before,

In hopes she would return,

But she never did.

She was never there.

She's out of his mind.
