Justin awoke with the sun on his face. He clumsily closed his blinds, not remembering if he shut them. He turned over and saw Cassie, sleeping peacefully. He smiled to himself as he looked at her. She slept on her side, her back to him. Her white hair tumbled down her back, the purple diy only surviving a few strands. He noticed her arm had goosebumps on them. He took her hand and kissed it lightly, before pulling the blankets on her. It was only when the quilt left his leg, he remembered that he was bare. Memories of the previous night came flashing back. He couldn't help but smile. He was about to stand up, when Cassie began to stir. She rolled her body over to face him, with a few strands of hair covering her face. Instead of fixing them back into place, she moved Justin's hair away from his face. It had gotten longer since she met him but she loved his hair. "Morning." She said, her voice almost a whisper.
"Morning." He kissed her lightly on her chapped lips. Cassie always had chapped lips during the autumn/winter season. Cassie felt the urge to go back to sleep again. But she also had the urge to kiss him again. Instead, her fingernails traced random lines on his chest. No words were passed about the previous night. None had to be spoken. Almost like a sacred ritual. The silence was peaceful for a moment, but Justin could tell that Cassie was deep in thought."Are you alright?"
Cassie propped herself onto her arm so she could comfortably look at Justin. "I was just thinking about my Mum," she said slowly. "I didn't tell her that I wasn't coming this weekend. I complain about what a bad Mum she is... but it's not like a give her a reason to change." Justin just stared down at his blanket, no words passed from his lips.
"I've never met my biological parents," he looked back up at Cassie to see her listening intently. "For awhile that bothered me. God, for years it bothered me." His voice rose slightly, but then it went back to the soft and low tone Cassie knew that he reserved for situations like these. "Why would they give me up? A healthy baby that was theirs. To start a family." He cleared his throat. "Questions plagued me for years. But they don't anymore. You know why?" Cassie didn't say a word, searching his grey eyes. "Because I have a family. That was my solution. I have two beautiful Mum's that are my family. Why shouldn't I love them just as much as someone who would love their biological parents?" Silence. "What I'm saying is, is that blood isn't everything. Don't feel like you have to owe your Mum something if she doesn't deserve it."
Cassie took his hand underneath the blankets, rubbing his forefinger with hers. "You've never told me about your parents." She didn't have to specify which ones.
"I've never had to. Until now."
Cassie gave him a small smile, thankful for the advice. She rested her head on his chest as he kissed her head.
