Cassie awoke as the sun began to appear over the treetops of the park. It’s glow made everything it touched - including the spare room in Justin’s house - glow a bright orangey colour. Cassie sat up in her bed, sliding the curtains open. She cursed to herself as the brightness reached her eyes. The bed was directly in front of the window, and the winter sun happened to be in the same position as that very window. Cassie took a moment for her eyes to adjust to the morning sun before slipping out of bed. She stumbled over the box that she had hidden underneath the bed, and the realization flooded over her. Today was Christmas Eve!
It had been days after the Winter Formal, and school had finished. Her and Justin had been quite busy over the first few weeks of the holidays, and hadn’t seen each other in a while, but decided to spend Christmas eve together. It took a bit of convincing from both parents, but they eventually agreed for Cassie to stay the night (although she wasn’t allowed to sleep in the same room as Justin).
Cassie rushed over to Justin’s room and quietly crept into his room. She slipped her present underneath the tiny Christmas tree her and Justin had decorated the previous night. Justin wasn’t awake - which Cassie had expected - so she took a seat on his small sofa.
After a few minutes, Cassie heard Justin stir. She sat up and smiled as she saw Justin sleepily climb out of bed; wearing only his boxers.
“Morning,” she giggled, trying to avert her eyes from his boxers. Though, it didn’t work too well. Even though Cassie had seen Justin in much less, the prospect of him in only boxers, was still enough to make her blush.
Justin followed Cassie’s eyes with a smirk on his face. She could tell he had no idea, however.
“You like what you see?” he asked, glancing back up at Cassie. She grabbed one of the dark red pillows and chucked it at him, hitting him right in the chest.
“Go get dressed, Helgenberg,” she said, though she was smiling. Justin returned her smile, whilst opening his drawers. Cassie stared at him with a stupid smile on her face.
Justin soon changed - wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt - and took a seat next to Cassie.
“Am I allowed to talk now?” he asked cheekily, and Cassie nodded. He smiled and wrapped his arms around her small waist, pulling her closer to him.
“Merry Christmas Eve,” he said as he pressed his lips against hers. Fireworks erupted inside of Cassie as their lips moved in sync with each other.
She didn’t know who pulled away, but she did know that it ended far too soon. She let out a quiet, disappointed moan as she opened her eyes. Justin was staring down at her - all the tiredness disappeared from his sparkling grey eyes.
“I didn’t say I wanted to stop,” he said quietly. He surprised Cassie by pushing her gently so that she was laying on the couch. Cassie’s surprised gasp was cut off by Justin’s lips coming in contact with hers once more. She kissed back eagerly, wrapping her arms around his neck and running her hands through his hair. All the thoughts in her mind were completely erased as his soft, chapped lips met hers. She felt a slight burning sensation in the pit of her stomach, though she liked the feeling.
They quickly pulled away at the sound of footsteps. Cassie felt heat rush to her cheeks as Catelyn and Riley opened Justin’s door, though they were completely unaware of what they almost walked into.
“We thought we heard you two.” Riley said. “And what are you doing out of your bed?” Riley referred to Cassie, only half joking. Cassie gave a small, awkward smile in response, the heat in her cheeks only growing.
“Oh, leave her alone.” Catelyn spoke softly. “We’re just letting you know that we’re heading to work. Breakfast is on the counter.”
“Thanks Mum.” Justin said, hoping they would leave. He felt bad for Cassie. She was just starting to warm up to his parents, but because of their current situation, he understood her embarrassment.
“No problem. We’ll be back at four.” He heard them say, as they shut the door.
Once Cassie and Justin were alone, Cassie walked over to the Christmas tree and picked up her gift to Justin. She walked over to him and handed him the package, a small smile on her face.
“Happy Christmas, Justin,” she said softly.
“You didn’t have to give me anything,” Justin insisted, carefully playing with the wrapping paper. “Being with you is enough.” He forced himself to look at her; to not look away.
“I wanted to,” said Cassie. Justin rolled his eyes, though had a smile on his face as he unwrapped his gift. His eyes widened as he slowly revealed the DVD box set.
“Cassie, you didn’t have to buy me Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood,” he gasped, though he smiled as he looked at one of his favourite anime’s in awe.
Cassie shrugged, and once again said, “I wanted to.” Justin smiled and kissed her softly, though quickly. She let out a quiet moan as he stood up. Justin glanced back at her, a slight smirk on his face, as he picked up a small wrapped box. He walked over to the couch and handed it to her before taking a seat next to her, snaking an arm around her small waist.
“Happy Christmas,” he whispered and kissed her neck softly. Goosebumps raised on Cassie’s arms as she shakily unwrapped the gift. As she slid the wrapping paper off, it revealed a small, black box, which was tied shut with a red bow and took the lid off.
She gasped at the sight, and turned to look at Justin.
“Justin, it’s beautiful,” she whispered. Justin smiled and took the box from her. He slid the diamond ring out of it’s hole and slipped it onto her ring finger before kissing her hand.
“I thought you might like it,” he said, rather cheekily.
Cassie smiled and pressed her lips against his. “I love it, Justin.”
