The class exploded into chatter, only few went to the front to grab the textbook while the majority stayed in their seats using the excuse that they were getting their pencil cases and books out. Mila, not having anyone to talk to, walked straight to the front of the classroom to get the textbook and set to work. Unlike her peers, she didn't have many friends, there wasn't much time outside of work, looking after the children and studying. However, it was mostly because she wasn't a pompous, privileged child living off of their trust funds.

But in typical luck, Mila wasn't left to herself as the boy in front of her twizzled around on his chair. Without looking up, she could already see the cocky grin plastered on his face. "Hey, blondie." Despite his watching eyes, she ignored him and continued to draw the outline of the heart. If she replied to him, she knew it would result in an argument. Mila definitely didn't have the patience after this morning. "Robinson? You're not actually deaf, are you?"

This comment made her twitch. Did he not understand boundaries? Especially after the spectacle in study hall. Mila couldn't help herself from responding. "Is it really that hard to believe someone would ignore you, Collesto?"

"Ooh, okay." Kai whistled, shaking his head to sweep his brown curls from his eyes. "Are we using last names now?" He leaned back against the table and gave her a smirk. Smug prick. Mila tightened her hand around her pen. Words couldn't describe how much she hated him and his group of friends.

Ignoring his question completely, she sighed and instead asked, "What did you want Kai?"

"Well before you decided to get arsey with me, I was going to ask for a pencil."

"I don't have one." Mila looked away from him and focused back on sketching the rest of her heart. Hopefully if she didn't give him the attention he thrived off of, he would get the hint and leave her alone. Apart from that was never going to be the case, was it?

The pencil from her hand was plucked from her fingers. "You're using one right there."

Oh, hell no, not again. Mila scowled at him and instantly snatched the pencil back. "This is my only one," she emphasised every syllable so that Kai would be able to understand, apparently being talked to like a child was the only way to get the point across.

"That's weird. Don't people like you always carry around fifty?"

Mila whipped her head up again and shot him a dirty look. Through clenched teeth, she ground out, "what's that supposed to mean?"

"Woah, woah, woah." His eyes widened and slowly he held his hands up, looking at her if she were crazy. All Mila could think about was the audacity he had to think he was entitled to everything his eyes laid upon. But that was just the way that group was brought up, she supposed. Whatever they asked for, they got. For Mila, if she wanted something, she would have to work extra shifts upon her already extra shifts. "Calm down, feisty. I only meant you look like the type of person to be prepared."

Gesturing to the stationary laid out on her table, she said, "I have enough for myself, do I not?"

"Right, I guess you do." Kai looked slightly taken aback, as if he wasn't used to being spoken to like this. Which he wasn't. Girls did whatever he wanted them to, even if he had never given them any type of acknowledgement before. Mila couldn't exactly blame them. He was drop dead gorgeous. However, unlike every other teenage girl, she realised there was more to a person than their looks. "Can I have it after you?"

"Borrow." Mila corrected him before dropping her pencil onto the table and looking up at him properly. "Look Kai, it's really not that hard. Go ask Miss for one. I've said I don't have one."

"Good idea." Kai nodded but didn't move. His head was tilted as he watched her, even as she went back to labelling the heart. Briefly, Mila glanced up at him, catching him in the act, and his eyes flicked away. When he looked back at her, she was there ready to pull as face that said what are you doing?

Then, with the furrow of his brows, he stood up and didn't talk to her—or even turn round—for the rest of the lesson.
