It was around 9pm when Kai and his friends walked into Florence's. The Florence was a pub that, over the years, they had come to love-even if it was on the dodgy end of Eastbourne, being a few blocks from where Whiteridge started. Despite this, the atmosphere inside was always great and the bartenders never flagged them up for their fake IDs. Though, none of them needed them anymore as they just turned eighteen, which was highly convenient in Kai's opinion as he was the one that almost always slipped up on the date of birth.

They especially started coming to this particular pub as of late after the disappearance of Alyssa Croft. The place held a lot of memories of crazy stories like the time Belle Dickinson and Alyssa were so off of their heads that they sat with another table of older men thinking they were himself, George McCarthy and Josh Beckett, which resulted in them crying their eyes out and telling their entire life stories which eventually ended up in an article in the local newspaper.

Each and every one of them felt connected to Alyssa when they were here.

Alyssa had always been a ray of light in their lives. An angel from the heavens. Though, that only applied when one of them needed help, the rest of the time she was a devil. The spawn of Satan.

She had helped the group through so many events in their lives that Kai had lost count along the way. Her disappearance had been a kick in the gut for all of them, some more than others. Kai was more worried about Belle and Josh than himself, and it served as a great distraction. He-and he was sure he could say the same for the others-was still holding onto the hope she was only missing and not dead, they all were.

But it was January now and Alyssa went missing in October.

Kai knew the rest of the group were thinking exactly what he was and so, George coughed and broke the awkward standstill in the doorway. "You guys go ahead and find a table, I'll grab the first round," George said, dragging Josh along to help carry the drinks.

Behind him, Belle stumbled forward towards their mutually agreed table in the back corner of the pub. Kai's hand instantly shot out to table her. "Jesus, Belle, if you are going to drink at least wear better shoes," he frowned, holding her arm as she regained her balance.

Belle shot him an irritated look. "I can walk fine." She snatched her arm back and stormed forward, wobbling in her heels as she went to walk beside Cece Rivera.

"That woman," Kai muttered under his breath once Belle was out of ear shot.

That's when a certain blonde-haired girl caught his eye.

The girl from study hall and the biology class was glass collecting; though even with the eight glasses in her hands, she wasn't struggling and made it look effortless. Robinson, Kai recalled her last name, which at the moment was all he had.

It was intriguing that this girl acted so short-tempered towards him. That was something new, something he wasn't used to at all. No girl had ever been way to him, aside from Alyssa, Belle and Cece but they were like sisters to him and so it didn't count.

Kai had never even noticed Robinson before, not that justified much as he didn't notice many outside of the group and those who threw themselves at his feet. Josh, since he moved to Eastbourne in June, had been on and off with Alyssa and George was quiet, leaving Kai to be the only 'bachelor' figure.

He knew the girls were using him in hope that they would land themselves in some cash. But Kai was never interested in anything more than a hook up. And he loved that life style. The non-existent commitment. The freedom. It was thrilling to Kai, there was nothing routine about it and he could do whatever he wanted, whenever. Unlike Josh, who was tied down the minute he arrived in Eastbourne which Kai pitied his friend for.

Eastbourne was the city of neon lights and partying. Josh had never been able to experience that, not until now. But Josh still couldn't really, he was still in mourning for Alyssa. Sometimes Kai thought that there would never be anyone else but Alyssa in Josh's eyes.

Then Robinson looked up and their eyes met across the room. The girl halted for a second, starstruck as she realised she was being watched. Kai quickly looked away. He couldn't believe he had stopped in the middle of the pub to stare at her.

Where he looked off to the side, both Belle and Cece had their eyebrows raised at him and gave Kai a look that said what are you doing?

Shaking his head at himself, he gave one last look at the girl. She had disappeared, the door to the kitchen swinging shut. It was bizarre. Why did this girl not want anything to do with him? So, on the way to sit down beside his friends, he swore to himself he would find out what the blonde's deal was.
