The world was mine, but I was hers.
Anything she desired, she had.
Even if she didn't ask for it, she still had it.
The whole world was at her feet.

The anger I was supposed to feel was never there. My human wasn't angered by her actions and neither was my lycan.
"Are you alright, love?" I was amused by my mate's panicked reaction. Hearing the sound that the small burn the hot coffee made when it touched her skin, I had the urge to touch her so I could heal her. Our bond was getting stronger and without the mark, my need to keep her safe was driving me insane. She couldn't heal herself and I knew that the coffee didn't hurt her skin that much, but I had to stop myself for treating her like the human that she was.
My frustration that she was a human was beyond measure. I thought I was past that and maybe I was for a while, but her humanity was standing in our way to be completely mated. She wasn't ready to be truly alive.
"I'm fine." Her fast beating heart, the blood flow increasing, her veins getting pumped relaxed me beyond measure. It was a soothing sound to hear. Irma's pupils were so dilated that I could barely see her eye color. Getting into her head without an effort, I found out that she didn't read enough and she wanted to know all of it. I wasn't mad at her, I couldn't be, because if I was her, I would've done the same.
But I was hurt by her doubt. She was asking herself if I would hurt her for reading the story I was never able to tell to anyone, but Adora.
"Are you?" Irma started to relax when our eyes met. Sensing her need to touch me, I took a step closer to her, only to see her jumping right into my arms. Her enchanting smell was making Childeric restless and I had to hold my breath in order to calm myself down.
"Will you tell me what is going on?" I hated to see my human mate confused, but I knew the truth will be too much for her to handle. The truth is too much even for the Kings. Childeric's voice was louder than ever in my head and I felt the need for shifting. There was no escape and I didn't want to shift into my kingdom, or into this world now that Irma was around.
"It will all make sense when you finish the book." It was all there. Everything she needed to know about me and our kind was written perfectly by Adora. The war that was about to come will only make sense to her after she reads the book.
The story that everyone wanted to read, but no one could find.
"You're leaving." She stated. The disappointment in her eyes was killing me, so I had to turn my back at her. The guilt was eating me alive. I was going to let my mate read the story I told, because I couldn't tell her myself. Because I couldn't watch her leave.
"I will. If you want to leave when you are done, I promise I will never bother you." I let Childeric took over without any argument. He wanted to touch our mate, to smell her intoxicating scent, to feel her emotions, maybe for the last time.
"I hope you'll stay, love."

"I don't want Meredith involved." His disappointment was clear. Julius didn't want his mate involved in our war. The King of Sin loved his country, his power and his people, but there was nothing he wouldn't give for his mate's safety. Julius was the second human my brother turned into one of ours. Everything we could do came with a curse.
Our first two attempts to expand our kind got half of our powers. Julius could see the future, stop the time, run faster than any of us and heal any kind of injury, disease, illness. But it all came with a cost. After his first try to see the future, the King of Sin was blind for a year. Now, if he tells someone the future, that person goes insane in less than twenty four hours. If he stops the time, the first person he touches goes into a coma. If he run as fast as he can, he'll feel like his feet are on fire and if he heals someone, Julius has to deal with the pain that person was supposed to feel.
There's nothing we can do that doesn't come with a cost.
"If the Queen on Death dies, how many souls are you willing to take to bring her back to life?" His sudden question didn't took me by surprise. Irma couldn't die because I wouldn't let her die. But if something happened to her, he wanted to know if hell would break loose.
"All of them." Childeric started to get restless because of his question. The thought of Irma's death made it hard for me not to shift on the spot. I had to look outside the window to get myself distracted. His kingdom was decorated for Christmas almost as bright as the Romance Kingdom was. Meredith hated Christmas and Julius wasn't a fan, but his people did. Sin Kingdom was known for being the house of poverty. Just like we expected, the kingdom was mostly populated with young vampires, wolves and humans.
"I know they went for her." Him knowing about how they went for Irma and almost making her kill herself made me mad. I could tell that he saw it in his dreams, or maybe before it even happen and me and Childeric were ready to kill him.
"The word goes around fast." My left fingers bones started to break and my claws grew out. After the fight with the witches, the talk with Lucifer and the last conversation I had with Irma, Julius was walking on thin ice. On a normal day, I kept myself in my human form with a lot of effort. But now I was like a ticking bomb.
"I don't need words to know anything." He looked outside the window too. I could hear him sigh in frustration. The wisest of the four sons was tired of living. He didn't tell me about what was going to happen to Irma on purpose. He knew I would go for him if something happened to her. He knew I was going to make his death unbearably painful.
"We need all of the queens to win the war." His eyes turned purple. Julius couldn't keep his beast under control anymore. He was just as thirsty for blood as I was.
"We don't have all of them." His certainty fueled my anger. Letting Childeric take over, my fangs grew out. If I killed him now, I wouldn't only lose him before the war, but I would lose Meredith too. The Queen of Sin was an important pawn in our war.
"We do."
Childeric's growl made Meredith come into the office running.
