KHALID
Kunmi walked out of his room after what seemed like forever, he'd been on call with Bimpe for the past few hours and I'd been wondering what they were talking about. He plopped on the sofa beside me and I turned to him.
"You didn't die there?" I asked.
He chuckled, "Why would I die there?"
"I actually thought you didn't intend to end the call, you guys still saw each other two days ago and you've been calling non-stop since the holiday started, is this really the two of you?"
He smiled, "Yeah."
I nodded, "Hmm, so?"
I lifted his hand in a half shrug, "So what? We were just discussing and insulting each other."
I raised my brows, "That's what you'll say, better do quick before..."
He laughed, "Do quick with what? Anyway, Abimbola asked of you oo."
I furrowed my brows," She came here?"
He nodded, "Yeah, immediately you left for Kikiope's place."
"Oh okay."
He crossed his legs, "Tell me why aren't you with her again? At a point I thought she was the love of your life."
I chortled, "Love of the life ko, she was the one that broke up with me in the first place, me that I've been looking for opportunity before and opportunity comes but once."
He smiled, "Glad you got your senses back."
I cocked my head.
His smile disappeared as he rested his back on the chair, "My mom called."
I lifted my brows, "Your mom? Why?"
He sighed before talking, "She wants me to spend the holiday with her."
I squeezed my face, "Really? What came over her?"
"It's actually because the old man travelled out."
I nodded, "No wonder? So, will you go?"
"I don't know yet," he replied before Aunt Sofia walked into the house, after swapping greetings, she went up to her room only to come back later for dinner, then we had a movie night.
💢💢💢💢💢💢
I'd just dropped Kunmi at his mom's place, he'd finally decided to spend the holiday with her.
Getting down from the car, I headed towards the house only to realize the door was opened, maybe Aunt Sofia was back, but then she doesn't have a day off today, I squinted my eyes before walking into the house.
It was as silent as a graveyard and there were no traces of any soul, I creased my brows before shrugging it off, then I ascended the stairs ambling to my room, but then immediately I got to the entrance of my room my eyes trailed to my dad's study and I realized the door was ajar.
Was he back? That would be shocking, I decided to confirm myself so, I walked to his study, poking my head inside I realized there was no one in there, I narrowed my eyes and decided to leave but immediately I took a step, I heard a crashing sound.
"Fuck!" I heard a voice which I instantly recognized, then I walked into the study.
"Mom," I called quietly before I saw her coming out from under the large study table.
"Khalid," she replied with a forced smile.
"What are you doing here?" I asked in a cursory way before my eyes trailed to the documents in her hand. She quickly hid it behind her. Hope it's not what I'm thinking?
"When did you arrive?"
"Just now, I didn't know you were coming home," I replied while moving closer to her.
She faked a faint smile but I could see the worry lines on her face, "I took a break and decided to come home."
"Then why are you in Dad's study?"
She shrugged, "I was looking for something."
"Is it the documents you're holding?"
Her eyes widened, but she concealed her surprise quickly, "What document?"
"That," I pointed behind her, and she smiled.
"I prepared you lunch," she changed the topic and I decided to go with the flow.
"Oh," I mouthed and she smiled.
"It's in the kitchen, you must be hungry right?"
I nodded in return.
"You can go downstairs, I'll meet you there," she said more like pleaded and I nodded before walking out of the study.
I closed the door gently and leaned on the door before opening a small portion of it, then I saw her bring out her phone.
"You don't have to greet me, you know what I want, come home this instant, you need to explain what I just saw!" She bellowed and I heaved. Seems the cat had finally been let out of the bag.
"Then forget you have a family here!" She smashed her phone on the table before clutching the papers with her.
I sighed before turning away, then I went down.
I sighed before turning away, then I went down and slumped on the couch. She got down not quite long with a radiant smile that left me wondering if she was actually the one I saw earlier."You haven't served your food yet?" She questioned still with that smile.
"I was about to," I replied before standing up.
"Don't worry, I'll do that," she left even before I could respond. I sighed before standing up, then I walked to the dining.
Minutes later, she walked out of the kitchen with our lunch of porridge garnished with chunks of fish and meats, the sweet aroma made me forget my troubles, and we ate in silence.
I looked at my mother and realized the troubles was reflecting on her face even though she was trying so hard to conceal it, I could see through her facade.
This would surely be one long holiday.
What do you think his mother saw?
Any guess on his dad's secret?
