Emilia was anxious since Steven left. He had warned her that he wasn't one to text, but the lack of communication felt horrible. After all, she was the one who wanted to do this in the first place, not him.

He'd even been gracious enough to let her stay in his apartment while away. Partially because she still lived with her parents and wasn't happy about it. The guy took pity on her ever since Harper "disappeared".

A surge of hope coursed through her whenever her phone rang, though it rarely did. But when it finally did show he was calling, she felt apprehensive.

"How's it been?" she asked.

"Terrible. She's crazier than we thought. Not to mention some of the other degenerates that inhabit this place," he bemoaned.

"Care to get into specifics?"

He peeked into the hallway to see if anyone was listening, then for extra measure, went into the closet and told her everything that had happened so far: pseudo-satanic sex, erotic torture dungeons, corpses in walls, furniture fetishism, etc.

He also admitted that Harper was obviously gone. She was silent for a moment, then sniffled as if trying to mask tears he couldn't see.

"How are you coping?" she finally asked.

"Not well," he admitted. "So don't suggest that we quickly do away with her. Those other three are such a damn problem."

"You practically read my mind." She paced through his living room as they talked.

"There's not much to tell yet. But she seems to be getting progressively more unstable."

"Look, we need a keyword in case you're in trouble."

"I won't be," he said, rolling his eyes. "I can take care of myself."

"Just do this for me, will you?" she demanded.

"Okay, fine. 'Auto-erotic'. No one here would bat an eye at that."

He was about to say something else when a scream was suddenly heard coming from another room. "Shit. Something's going on."

"Think I should come?" she asked, already thinking the worse.

"Absolutely not. Could be another false alarm." Right after he said this, another scream echoed. "Gotta go." He quickly hung up and ran out of the room.
