CHAPTER 3

“Woke up late. Hair looks like crap. Clothing choice could be better. FML.” I posted on Twitter in the middle of second period. What I didn’t put is the fact that I had to sit near Anthony again today.
I met Ivy halfway and walked to class, still irritated about my morning. Soon as I sat down, all I hear is Anthony and Kenton walking in the class laughing loud as hell. I bundled up in my jacket because, well, let’s face it. Mr. Wade kept it at 70 degrees and (on occasion) below. Today? 65 degrees.
“Bro, it is mad cold in here! Everyone is going to be frozen by the end of class!”
“Tell us something we don’t know,” I said looking Anthony in the eyes. He looked back at me, walking to his seat, or just four steps from the door.
“What’s that?” He pointed at my jacket. I looked down like an idiot, getting my chin flicked in the process. “Oh, got yo’ ass!”
I grabbed his finger tightly, bending it backwards. As he groaned, I released his finger with a serious face. “Got yo’ ass back.”
“Damn Jaz...That actually hurt like a mofo,” he complained.
“Want me to five you the number to Dr. Phil? I’m sure he cares.”
Anthony looked back at me and cracked a small laugh. “You funny.”
A part of me wanted to thank him, but the other part said “Screw that. He’ll be fine.”
About 15 minutes into the class, almost half the class was knocked out sleep. Anthony’s whole crew was pretty much sleep, not making it any more obvious. I was still awake along with the teacher’s pet in the back row who had been keeping Mr. Wade company as I was dozing in and out of his lectures.
“Everybody wake up and tell me what the Preamble is,” Mr. wade loudly requested. Everyone slowly picked their head up still in a daze except Anthony. Figures.
Mr. Wade walked to Anthony’s desk, tapping on it to wake him up. “Anthony, how about you tell us what the Preamble is.” “Mr. Wade had his skeptical look on, believing Anthony wouldn’t know a damn thing. I don’t blame him. I’d have those thoughts in my head too.
Anthony looked up at Mr. Wade and groaned. “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
The class got quiet and filled with ‘oohs’ from Anthony’s crew as Mr. Wade stood looking surprised. I looked back at Ivy who’s face spread with a small smile replaying what Anthony did back in her head.
“Good job,” he said as he attempted to continue the lecture without letting the embarrassment slip out of his voice.
Me, on the other hand was questioning the situation itself. I’ll give him point thought. Anthony wasn’t as stupid as he looks.
