Chapter 1: The Story Finally Begins

I was in the library where I usually hang out. I saw Drew walk in and of course I hide and ducked behind a shelf on Poetry which all the books decided to fall over on top of me. “Ouch” I yelled as the books landed on the floor and off of my head and Drew walked around the corner “Are you okay?” he asked helping me up “Yeah, I was trying to get-“I cut myself off and picked up a random book “this book off of the shelf and then the others collapsed onto of me” I continued my sentence and then rubs my head “You were getting Edgar Allen Poe? I never knew you were so deep” he said gesturing to the book with a chuckled “I’m not dark, He is just mysterious” I said as I put the book back “Mysterious? Like you?” he nudged my arm “Yeah, I guess” I said with no confidence what so ever. “So, wanna study sometime?” he asked with a half-smile “Um Okay, Sound’s great.  When and where?” I asked as I started to gaze into his eyes as if I were looking for stars in the sky “Friday? 7:00 and The Town Library?” he asked as he rubbed the back of his neck “Uh sure. I’ll check with my pa-“I quickly corrected myself “foster parents” I looked down at my shoes “Ok, Just let me know well I have to go anyway so I will see you around” he asked as he slowly walked to the library door as if he were waiting for something “Bye Drew” I said loudly so he would walk away and he did. Math, I personally love math but today its getting boring. “What is -12 + 24 - -10?” Mr. Huckleberry asked as he waited for an answer “Dani! What is the answer? I know you know it!” he yelled with a grin on his face “22” I said with a question like tone “Correct!” he yelled and went back to writing on the board “Show off” I heard Charlotte mumbled. I then turned around “Awe what’s wrong? Teachers pet didn’t call on her? Awe poor baby” I said with a sad face and turned around and began to tune her out. I saw Drew laughing in the back corner and a smile started to appear on my face and then I began to think. Oh no! I am not falling for his playing ass! But he is so cut- No! I snapped out of it as the bell rang and I went to my locker and I saw Dean their waiting on me “Hello Beautiful” he said with a warm smile “Hello weird person at my locker” I began to laugh as I opened my locker “So.....What are you doing tonight?” he asked as he watched me get my books “I’m going to study with Drew” I said glancing at him then back to searching for my chemistry homework that was buried in my locker “Oh, You’re going out with that guy? On a date? Not smart Dani” he looked at me I then slammed my locker “It’s not a date its just studying and I mean that were not gonna come back to school tomorrow holding hands and I can hang out with whoever I want to” the dismissal bell rang and I walked outside to see my foster mom Angela waiting on me in the burgundy Chevy Cruise. “Hey bug” she said as she picked up a McDonalds bag and dangled it in the air “Hey mom” then my eyes locked onto the bag of McDonald’s bag and I grabbed it politely “Mom?” she looked shocked and then smiled and I could tell she just got off of work she was still wearing her scrubs. She was a Pediatric cardiologist which basically means she treats and diagnoses infants with heart problem. The only time I called her mom was today before today I had never called her that. “Yeah, is it okay if I call you that?” I asked as I looked into the bag and pulled out a French fry and then ate it. “Of course Dani” she smiled as she drove towards the house “Were going out to eat today to celebrate your “dads” promotion” she said with quotation marks "What times?” I asked hoping it wouldn’t run into my dat- studying with Drew “3:30” she said as she looked at the clock and it said 3:06 “Well we are gonna go home and change right?” I asked cause I wanted to get out of these clothes “Yes and were going to Ryan’s” she smiled. Ryan’s has always been my favorite restaurant we had just gotten home and we changed and we all piled into the minivan and it was 3:49 when we got to Ryan’s and we had finally got a table because Ryan’s is the only good restaurant in this town “Angela....Can I go to the library later? Around....7?” I asked as I sipped my sweet tea and ate a roll “Of course but as long as you don’t have homework” she said as she buttered her roll “Nope, Homework free” I looked around at my foster family. “Dani can you pass the rolls?” Donny and Toni both said at the same time they were in my grade and Cierra was in 9th a grade below me “Sure and you guys really need to stop doing that” I said with a slight laugh as I passed the basket of rolls my foster dad Eric asked for our attention “Okay Dani, The real reason we are here and everybody knows is because-“ he stopped as my foster mom pulled out a vanilla folder and handed it to me “Because we have officially adopted you” he said with a smile and everybody was staring me and I slowly opened the envelope and saw the file and tears started to form “Really? You wanna adopt me?” I asked as a tear dropped “Yes, We do everybody has agreed on it. You’re already family” Angela said but I continued to stare at the document and smiled “Thank you Angela and Eric.....Thanks mom and dad” I smiled and hugged them and then sat on Donny’s lap and hugged my new siblings. After we got home it was around 6:20 so I decided to go ahead and get ready which toke me 10 minutes.
