~Wednesday Afternoon~

Third POV

Scarlet walked through the hall, hands in the pockets of her black jeans. There weren't many people in the hallway; they were all at lunch. "Hey... you! I need to talk to you."

The red-head turned to see the girl from Monday. Today she wore an outfit similar, but instead of a T-shirt she wore a black long-sleeved shirt. "Oh... its you. What's up?"

"What did you do to that girl the other day? I saw her today with needle marks all over her arms. She said the doctors had to run tests on her... apparently she was dead. Her brain lost connection with her heart and it stopped beating, but only until she was away from you. Five miles away, to be exact."

With a slightly confused look, Scarlet replied simply, "I didn't do anything to her-"

Before she could finish her sentence, the other girl had her hands pinned to the wall. Something about her was different... instead of normal green eyes... they resembled those of a cat. "You've seen Him, haven't you? In your dreams? But you don't know what the dreams mean... I could tell you, if you want."

Narrowing her slate-blue eyes, Scarlet immediately seemed suspicious. "How do you know about the dreams."

"I know. That's all you need to know. Do you want to know or not?!"

Reluctantly, she nodded. "Yes... please tell me. Maybe they'll go away."

"First, you have to tell me something. What exactly was going through your head when Lexi collapsed?"

The red-haired teen gave a dark chuckle. "Basically... I wanted her dead. That was the only thing running through my head."

"Excellent... then, in that case, I have a... gift. From the Operator himself. Just try not to scream." The dark-haired girl placed her hands on Scarlet's forearms, causing the latter to cringe and bite her lip. "Now, about those dreams of yours. To put simply... You have been chosen." When she moved away, Scarlet immediately held up her arms. Faintly, on both her forearms, was a circle with an X crossed over it. "Oh, by the way, my name is Faline. (Fay-leen) I was sent to watch over you, until the right time. So until then, I guess you're stuck with me. Wanna be friends?" Faline held out her hand, smiling.

Scarlet sighed lightly and shook her hand. "I don't have a choice, do I? Sure, we're friends now."

"Good. But I gotta warn ya, I can be preeeetty creepy sometimes!" Faline gave a devilish grin and cast a side glance at Scarlet as they began walking to the cafeteria.

Scarlet rolled her eyes. "I doubt you and your cat eyes could creep me out. I'm practically unscarable."

"Well when you meet everyone else, you'll re-think that."

Even though the red-haired teen kept asking, Faline wouldn't clarify what exactly she meant. So the duo got their lunch and sat down, Faline met the guys, and the rest of the day was just great.

Until after school, of course.

After the dismissal bell rang, Faline insisted on walking with Scarlet to her house.
"Alright cat girl, I said that we could be friends, but I still don't completely trust you. I really don't want you knowing where I live."

When the green-eyed girl opened her mouth to protest, Scarlet smirked slightly and said "Besides, I don't walk home. I skate." She grabbed her skateboard from the ground and rode off... in the opposite direction of her house. When the school was far behind, the blue-eyed girl turned into an alley and took the long way back to her house. 'Now she doesn't even know what part of town I live in.' Scarlet snickered to herself.

However, her brief moment of victory was cut short when she arrived at home- or what was left of it. Firetrucks, cop cars, caution tape, and reporters were all around the now burnt house. But the worst detail...

There was an ambulance. And a body being lifted into it.

"MOM!"
