Trees, trees, aaaaand more trees. This forest seems to have no end, or so the simple boy thought. How much time has passed since then? He can't really tell. The horse had gotten tired from running, so he just let it walk alongside him for now until they find a proper place to rest. The area was getting foggier and foggier as the purple mist conquered the woods. Barely any sunlight was let in, so Ren had to carry a lantern with him. He obviously didn't think this through. Where was he even supposed to be headed? Is he even sure the answer lies within this infinite path? It was starting to get colder and colder as he walked, feeling the howling wind blow against his cloak. The feeling of being watched sent chills down his spine.
Surprisingly enough, swift footsteps stepping on sticks and leaves were heard, causing Ren to stop in his tracks, holding the horse by a leash. He cautiously drew out his butterfly knife, gripping on the handle as tight as he could, eyes growing wary of the surroundings. That was when the mysterious figures as fast as the wind appeared within the trees, and out of the bushes. A pair of gleaming yellow eyes stared at the soon-to-be-dinner, producing a growl through it's sharp teeth. A pack of wolves was surrounding the two, circling them as if they're trying to intimidate them.
"RRAGH!" One of the wolves lunged at Ren, who managed to kick it away and slice it's throat off. The other wolves all took turns attacking him and even the horse, who was neighing loudly and trying to escape. The frizzy haired male tried to fight back with his knife, but due to being outnumbered, he accidentally got bitten on the waist.
"Agh-! Get off!" He yelled, using his knife to stab the wolf by the neck, causing it to bleed to death. Another wolf proceeded to charge at him, but was halfway stopped when another mysterious figure pushed it away, knocking them out. When Ren looked what it was, his eyes widened in surprise. A fully grown fox with ocean blue eyes, fur as white as the snow, and with makeup tainted red. It's long tail swiftly brushed against the ground, teeth as sharp as spikes. He couldn't believe it. It has to be the same mysterious thing that he saw in his dreams. The wolves have already retreated back into the depths of the purple mist, intimidated by the beast's larger presence. The creature turned his head back to Ren, staring at him as if he was some kind of unnatural specie.
The fox watched as the mysterious human squirmed and turned on the cold and dirty grass, his hand against his bleeding wound. With only a blink of an eye, the creature transformed into a human. This magical beast is known as Yusuke Kitagawa, an unordinary being that can transform himself into a ferocious doglike animal with a muzzled nose and a bushy tail. He isolated himself from humans, in fear of not being able to fit in, or even worse, he might get killed just for being different. Unfortunately it was always the latter, so he hesitated to cure Ren's wound for a moment, before finally giving in and kneeling down next to his side.
"You shouldn't be here..." Yusuke muttered under his breath, lips curving into a small frown. Glancing at the frizzy haired male's face, only then did the fox realized that he was still staring at him in surprise. "I assume it is your first time seeing a mythical creature. Nonetheless, it's rude to stare."
"Ah- oh- y-yeah. Sorry." Ren finally snapped out of his trace, a light blush appearing on his cheeks due to embarrassment. He looked to the side, and continued to lay down in order to cure his wound. He suddenly felt a light kiss on his wound and before he knew it, the pain was gone, as if it never even existed. "How did you—"
"It is my magical ability. Of course, I do not expect for a human like you to understand." Yusuke replied, slowly standing up straight to prepare to leave. "This is a strictly prohibited area to your kind. I'll help you find your way out."
To Yusuke's surprise, he responded with, "Hold on, I came here out of my own free will. I'm not leaving."
"What do you mean? Can't you see this place is dangerous for someone like you?" His brows slightly furrowed, turning back to look at him. Those pair of jet black eyes seems unnerving, almost hypnotizing even. He couldn't help but stare at them for too long, but thankfully he warped himself back to reality before the other male could even notice.
Ren let out a sigh, placing his hand on his hip. "I know, but this is really important. Something told me to come here, and I'm trying to find out what it is and why it did just that." An idea crossed his mind after he said those words, in which he immediately brightened up. "Say, maybe you could help me?"
Yusuke's eyes slightly widened in surprise. He was dumbfounded. A human wanting a help from a creature like him? Is he dreaming or did the world suddenly flipped over? Probably the latter. "Why do you need my assistance..?"
"I mean, you live here, right? So you know what this place is. This place is dangerous like everyone said, but I came here for a reason." Ren replied, looking back to Yusuke. It's strange to see that he's willing to put that much trust into someone he just met.
"Are you not at least afraid of me? I do not want to alarm you, but I could hurt you if I want to."
"Well..you did save me from those wolves, didn't you?"
(It's pointless to argue with this man..) The blue haired fox thought as much, putting a hand against his chin. He thought for a moment, before finally making up his mind. "Very well. Come follow me." He said, turning on his heel to start leading the way to wherever they're going.
"Wait, I want to know your name."
Yusuke stopped in his tracks, his long tail slightly swinging from side to side. "..Yusuke, Yusuke Kitagawa. And you are..?" He trailed off, turning back to look at him.
A gentle smile was found upon his face. "Ren Amamiya. It's nice to meet you, Yusuke."
The two stared into each other's eyes for a minute or so, before finally breaking contact and starting their small journey. The fox and the human, working together in perfect harmony, perhaps maybe a start of a new friendship. Little did they know, their friendship might blossom into something deeper and bigger.
