"My, my! What happened to you?" Kate gasped.
I rolled my eyes as I brushed my wet bangs out of my face. I shrugged off my soaking coat and hung it on the hook of the coat hanger.
Cold and dripping wet, I shuddered. Definitely going to catch a cold.
"Crim, I could of picked you up. You didn't have to walk in the pouring rain." She pouted with fake concern masking her face
"It doesn't matter." I mumbled.
"It matters all right. You're going to get sick!" She screeched.
I winced as my eardrums throbbed from the racket.
The last thing I needed was someone fussing over me getting sick. I just wanted to be left alone. It's my life god damn it.
"It is very nice of you for your concern Kate, but I think we should get to work now. The restaurant will open soon." I replied politely. Although, Inside I was dying to scream at her to leave me alone.
"Hmph. Fine, don't come complaining to me when you get ill." She huffed and fiddled with her apron, walking off to the store room.
'I wasn't planning to.' I thought bitterly.
Ignoring her, I put my apron on and tied the strings around my waist. Once I was done, I walked up to the front door and swapped the sign around so it said 'OPEN' with a stupid smiley face.
This restaurant couldn't get any more childish. The walls were painted in bright neon yellow paint. So bright, it would make you shield your eyes. The seats were green with orange tables. Horrible combination.
I trudged to the counter and got ready for a hell of a day.
Not much later, customers started piling in. Working hard, collecting orders, the day went by quickly. Soon the sun was setting.
Just as the last customer left, I let out a sigh of relief.
" I'm done for today." I yawned while untying the string of apron. I caught a glimpse of the weather outside. The rain had stopped and the clouds were clearing, with streaks of sunlight spilling through them.
Kate looked up from mopping the floor. "Okay. Be safe."
"You too." I stuffed the apron in my mini bag, then made a grab for my now, dry coat. It was quite chilly outside, since winter was around the corner.
After buttoning my coat up, I exited the restaurant.
The crisp air nipped at my exposed flesh. I inhaled a deep breath of fresh air, before letting it out with a sigh. I started the journey to my house.
~X~
"Strange murder of Dan McMurphy has been reported in Maple Creek, In front of the young man's house, around five past six in the evening."
I stared intensely as they showed a video of cops surrounding the house, with police lines nearly everywhere. "Stay indoors and lock all windows and doors for all you people in Maple Creek. Don't go outside after dark. It's not safe since the serial killer could be roaming the streets." A woman being interviewed spoke looking spooked.
"This is crazy. Maple Creek is such a peaceful town..." Another local spoke shaking his head.
My eyes were wide as a picture of the victim's the house popped up.
I've seen that house before. When I drive through the streets...it's pretty damn close.
Feeling creeped out I turn the TV off and checked for any open windows or doors. Securing my back door lock, I made my way to my room, changing out of my clothes into my pyjamas. Flicking the lamp switch off I climbed into bed and pulled the cover over me, closing my eyelids as my kitten crawled up to my feet, curling into a ball. I drifted off into a deep slumber.
