Harry nodded and smiled at a photographer, sticking his hands in his pockets as he inched down the red carpet too slowly for his liking. He hated doing this kind of thing, but it was for a friend. He knew that just showing up here would start a million tabloid rumors about new projects he was working on and women he was seeing. But Harry prided himself on being a good friend above all else.
Max had executive produced a new movie musical, and while it wasn't quite Harry's taste he thought it would end up being a fun night. It got him out of the house, which he hadn't done a lot of lately. Work had been madness, and he was trying to remember to take time for himself again.
He politely chatted with the people seated near him, mostly acquaintances or friends of another friend. Really, his expectations weren't high. It was supposed to be a regular night. But the moment the lights dimmed, and Max and the director stood to give a few words on their picture, someone tripped over Harry's feet.
He grabbed her instinctively, watching her teeter briefly in a pair of heels before smiling and mouthing a thank you to him. She carefully made her way to the front row and sunk down into her seat.
Harry leaned forward a bit. She was interesting. Whoever she was. They didn't sit just anybody in the front row at a premiere. Although, people with front row seats were rarely late.
When the film started, he tore his eyes from the back of her head. He wasn't especially interested, until he saw his mystery girl's face on the screen. And then he heard her sing, and saw her dance, and he briefly wondered if love at first sight could be a real thing.
Harry's eyes moved from the back of her head to the girl on the screen. She wasn't the star, yet he only had eyes for her. He couldn't imagine how viewers could pay attention to anyone beside her.
He was on his feet when the credits rolled, already calculating the best way to meet her without coming off forced or conniving. He had dealt with his fair share of forced setups and publicity grabs, he certainly didn't want to come across that way.
She was in high demand. The afterparty was being held nearby, and everybody wanted a word with her. Harry watched as she laughed and smiled her way around the room, until finally he had his chance. She was right there, only he really had no idea what to say. He never felt this way, it made him uncomfortable yet excited. He felt like something big was about to happen.
