Jake awoke again from the same dream, barely touching the door again, but this time, he didn't pay attention to the house. This time he paid more attention towards the yard. The small white fence that came up to his knee and the vines that grew all over it, covering what was left of the chipping paint and exposing the wood. The almost all dirt yard, hardly any grass or shrubbery of any kind. The small hedges by the porch. Any detail he saw, he remembered. When he woke he drew out a sketch of what he saw so that he wouldn't forget it. Jake finished getting ready and left for school, no breakfast this time because his mind was on other things. During school he barely paid attention until the bell rang and he bolted from his seat to get his skateboard.
He skated down the familiar path and taking that new road he had taken the day before. He had the folded up sketch from the morning and unfolded it as he zoomed down the road, letting the wind blow through his hair and cool him off. Summer was coming soon, he could feel it in the new comming heat of the days that slowly got longer every day that passed.
Then, he reached it. The empty lot from the other day. He lifted up the paper and compared the sketch to the lot. He froze as he felt his heart race yet his skin suddenly get colder. They were identical, the fence, the bushes, the vines, all in the same place yet no house on the lot, just a space where the porch should be between the bushes.
Jake shook his head and tried to think. Why was he dreaming of this place? Where did the house go? Is there something linking him here? Had he been here before? Many questions raced through his head, but he decided that it was best to just go home. He turned and left that place, the wind in front of him, pushing against him, as if calling him back to that blank lot.
