It was deep at night, the sky was a dark dark black with no clouds in sight, the stars could be seen. The lights from the little houses were off, the only light visible where those from the pubs where visible, not many people where outside, I totally get that, it was way too cold for anyone to stay outisde for long.
I looked at the bag on my bed, clothes. That's what it contained. Tshirts and pants I would usually wear when training, some dresses that weren't too sparkly or puffy, the most decent ones, and some pairs of shoes. Nikan said that it wouldn't matter if I ran out of tshirts as he had plenty of them which I was grateful for. We were planing on leaving tonight. We've been making our escape plan just after the Kings death. He paid more attention to when the guards who would usually guard the entrance would switch and I was in charge of finding other ways to escape such as passages or unravelled hallways so we could use them if we didn't get the big hallway clear.
I picked it up, heading for the door. I slowly opened it making sure it won't squeak and headed down the hallway. My clothes where matching it, dark and mysterious. I had a dagger hanging from my waist just in case anything happened. Me and Nikan talked about meeting just infront of his room, which was just a few hallways down from mine. I made my way slowly, watching out for anything. I soon saw the shadow of Nikan waiting quietly in the darkness.
He signaled for me to come to him, so I walked a little faster, my shoes not making any noise unlike the high-heels that used to sound horrible on the stone floor. It felt good not being in those stupid dresses anymore that restrict you from doing so many things. He grabbed my arm carefully and started walking along the darkness, probably to not be seen if somebody was to walk around the hallways.
We soon found the big doors that headed outisde, guarded. We waited around the corner but nothing happened. Ten minutes, the guards are still there, fifteen, still here, twenty, I see Nikan comming closer.
He leans in and whispers something in my ear. "We will have to take your way, we missed them" He said, so quiet I barely figured the sentence out. I nodded and signaled him to follow me. We walked the same path we took to here, passing his room, and then mine. We walked on different corridors, you could tell just by looking at them how rarely they've been walked. We stopped infront of an unknown wooden door to Nikan, and most of the people in the castle for that matter. I oppended it to reveal another set of passages. Nikan sighted behind me and I couldn't help but let out a quiet little laugh. I let him follow me, turning different corners till there was only a silver door infront of us. I opened it to reveal the beautiful landscape of the snowy forest just outisde the castle.
He went outside and I closed the door behind him. Outisde it was painted as to make it seem part of the stones that where used to build the castle. Whoever painted it did a very good job as you could barely tell where the actual stone ended and where the door began.
We started running for the forest. It was snowing so we didn't have to worry about our footsteps being left behind us. I held my bag tight and put a hand on my dagger to make sure it wouldn't fall. I smiled as the realisation hit me, I was running away from the castle, from the boring life I was living, I could finally get to be what I wanted, and I could finally investigate my fathers death, find that little dumbo who thought it was a good idea and make him suffer. A smirk crept on my face, I couldn't wait for the moment I'll hold their head in my hand, my dagger in their heart.
Nikan already reached the forest and was now catching his breath really quick. I walked the rest of the way, I saw him smiling at me so I smiled back. "Come on, let's go deeper in the forest, maybe we can find a nice spot and catch some sleep for the rest of the night" he nodded in agreement and followed me as we went through the dark cold forest.
