Kai hated hospitals. That much was certain.

He hated the gross smell that burned his nostrils, he hated how everyone looked and judged you, and he hated how many people thought he was a nurse because of the black surgical mask he wore.

Today, those were all in minuscule in the grand scheme of things though. In fact, he could replace the word hate with severely dislike in the sense of what he did and did not hate. Compared to those, he truly could live with those.

What he hated most wasn't hospitals or confused old woman who called him hot, no. What he hated was being in the hospital for his sister. He hated knowing she was hurt and he was not.

He hated knowing she took hits for someone twice her age. Kai didn't care if that was her teacher or not. Her radius was absolutely shattered that it took three different healing quirks to even get it salvageable.  There would be no scar, but the internal damage had been done. Not to mention the mental trauma. She had a relapse late in the night, snapping on any nurse that tried to touch her. Kai had to come in and calm down-- the only reason he left in the first place was because visiting hours were over.

Deep down, Kai knew that her relapse and injury was no ones fault but the villains', but he still wanted someone else to blame. Someone he could look at and yell at and make feel the pain and worry he did, and countless other guardians did, when they found out that Class 1-A had been attacked.

Signing the final papers for Adaliah's discharge-ment, he took the bill (which accounted for thirty percent of the overall hospital stay) and waited for the nurse to bring out his sister. She stumbled out in sweatpants and a sweatshirt, bags under her eyes, hair in a greasy bun and a black cast around her forearm. She looked tired, smelt miserable, and looked like she wanted the world around her to burn. She seemed so overstimulated that everything around her was most likely a buzz.

Good thing Kai brought his secret weapon.

Though not fully licensed yet, the white furred pooch beside him yipped in excitement, blue vest nearly slipping off of her as she bounced in spot; excited for her first day on the job.

At the sound of the yip, Adaliah immediately perked up, crouching as Aspen ran into her awaiting arms, licking her cheeks and allowing the girl to find comfort burying her face in her fur.
