You stepped into the dark room,took a seat at your desk and put on your headphones. It was time for the daily exams.
"Same old boring test again? Why can't we do something else for once." You whined

"Age thirteen. Type one." The automated voice started, "Please answer every question within ten seconds. We will begin now."

"Question 2; Count the total number of cubes in the following composite solid."

"Question 3; Give the 50th term of the following sequence."

"Question 59; Please five the formula that can be derived from the following conditions."

"Type two shall commence shortly."

"Whew.. Finally done." You sighed.

The lights turned back on.
"I'll be returning your exam scores!" announced Mom,

"Emma, Ray, Norman." Mom began, "You each got perfect scores again! Splendid job you three!"

Everyone praised the three, but you just stared. Emma was glowing with pride, Norman seemed content and satisfied, and Ray, well, he looked like he didn't even care.
Ray caught you looking at him for a while and started to stare back.

"NORMAN!" Don exclaimed,
Everyone turned their attention towards him.
"I challenge you to a game of tag!"

Everyone went outside of the house. Most of the children started sprinting away towards the trees already. I sat next to Ray under a tree, he didn't mind because I always say next to him. The raven-haired boy held a timer.

After ten seconds have passed, Norman started running after all the children. I was drawing in the dirt with a stick.

I was drawing a picture of thehouse. The boy next to me glanced at my drawing.

"Thanks!" I replied, keeping my eyes focused on the mAstERpIeCe I was creating.

It's not like I can do anything else in this boring, good for nothing hell hold.

"You know I was joking right?" Ray scoffed, "You suck."

"Shut up, Y/N. You're too young to be having such a dirty mind like that."

You dramatically gasp and place a hand over your chest, acting offended.
"How dare you say that to me Ray! I'm not that young. Plus how do you even know what I was implying?! You're only a few months older than me!"

"I read a book about it."

Your jaw drops and you immediately stop what you're doing doing and then to face the boy.
"THERE'S A BOOK ABOUT $*X IN THE LIBRARY?!"

Ray put his index finger over your lips.
"BE QUIET, YOU IDIOT! MOM MIGHT HEAR US!"

You grab his hand and push it away.
"YOU'RE BEING LOUD TOO, STUPID HEAD!"

"STUPID HEAD? WHAT KIND OF INSULT IS THAT?"

"I- I DON'T KNOW! WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY?!"

Ray started to laugh uncontrollably, wrapping his hands around his body to try and contain his laughter.
"Pffffft- I don't even understand why we're acting so stupid right now." The boy snorted, wiping a small tear from his eye. "You're so amusing, Y/N."

Your cheeks turn into a pinkish hue.
"H-huh! Where did that come from?!"

"Don't you know how to take a compliment?"

"Bruh-"

Ray flashes a small smile at you and continues reading literature.
"..." You just sat there, shocked. You don't remember a time Ray has complimented you like that. It seemed genuine too!

You glare at the boy.

I shouldn't be distracted by having pointless conversations. I need to think. I wonder if I should tell Ray about the house..

"It's rude to stare, y'know?"

Embarrassed, you continued to sketch the house in the dirt.
